2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumGah! I am actually seeing MORE not fewer Trump signs in my little corner of ME-2. What gives?!
I just cannot fathom a) the appeal of Trump, or b) the desire to willingly and very publicly endorse him.
At least we have 3 votes for sanity in our house. Would be 4 if YoungerGreenKid was a couple of years older.

(14,543 posts)The stupid necessary to support the jackass is so virulent it leads people to BOLDLY own it.
The other thing is that there are so dew Hillary signs, because the right had both effectively shamed a lot of people from admitting to supporting her in addition to the support of him is so unhinged a lot of people dont want to deal with the potential bullshit they might have to deal with if they publically support her.
They have doubled down here on signs as well.

(13 posts)My friends and I just had a discussion trying to figure out why there are so many Trump signs in PA and upstate NY, in typically liberal areas. I cannot understand the appeal either and it always cracks me up when I see a junked up mobile home or trailer with Trump signs all over the yard. These people are really delusional to think that Trump is going to help them.
and I noticed that the Trump signs have sprouted in the past several days. Ick. How much longer 'til this is over?

(24,745 posts)and I know why the number of tRump signs have proliferated. In the Lehigh Valley, some moneybags Trumpanzee made a big buy of tRump signs and either passed them out to the cult or had the minions put them out.

(9,878 posts)I was wondering if there was some organized effort. I'm in Montgomery County and it's just weird how there were a few signs and then in certain areas I drive through it's like they all sprouted in the past couple days.

(13 posts)and there are Trump signs everywhere. Did not realize that some Trumptard bought a whole bunch of signs. Just surprised me because the Lehigh Valley is usually pretty liberal.

(135,425 posts)Haven't you seen any of the "r-word" guidance and commentary?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/john-c-mcginley/what-really-happens-when-you-use-the-r-word_b_4896444.html
When the suffix -tard is added on to any adjective or noun, the resulting conjunction is intended to render a word that will connote an inferior, idiotic or dumber-than-dirt, juxtaposed quantity.
As one looks more closely at the contemporary use of the words retard, retarded and the suffix -tard the pattern that clearly starts to present is simply this: When employing this specific language, the objective is to separate and distinguish the user from those being used. The user in this case, of course, is the person spewing the words: retard, retarded and -tard. Those being used are the original population of special needs individuals who served as the catalyst for this kind of disparaging vitriol in the first place. They are those kids who ride on the smaller school bus. The ones who have personal space, proximity issues. The ones who talk funny. The ones with flat faces. The ones who drool. The ones who talk to themselves. And most importantly, many of those with intellectual disabilities are defenseless to this word.
Other populations that have been used by the users have and do include: blacks, Jews, homosexuals, lesbians, Italians, Latins, the Irish and women, just to name a few.
Whenever any of these populations are denigrated or used by the users? It is wrong. And the used will take action to stop being used. But, because the casual use of the words: retard, retarded and the suffix -tard have now become so deeply and passively ingrained in the contemporary vernacular? The insidious stigma that is perpetuated by the words indifferent application has been prosaically sanitized into a blasé toss-off in delivery and insensitive intent. And yet, however blithe the everyday practice of spicing up ones speech with the words retard, retarded and the suffix -tard has become? The (presumably) unintended result is still the same. A population of people, who has never done anything to harm anyone, is circuitously targeted and suffers from a trickle-down discrimination that is very real and very painful.

(13 posts)We took a ride last weekend in upstate NY looking at foliage and I was surprised to see loads of Trump signs in Ithaca, Syracuse etc.
I am not from NY but always thought that Ithaca and Syracuse were more liberal areas due to the universities .

(9,760 posts)and no bumper stickers. A lot of Trump signs, though. And yes, often on trailers or very run down shack type places. I simply cannot understand what makes these people think Trump will do a damn thing for them. Brainwashed, I guess.
Sad to sad to say, but think many people feel as I do and don't feel safe from Trump's thuggy supporters. I hope we'll surprise the hell out of them once our votes are counted.

(25,750 posts)I never put yard signs out. I don't feel I need to let everyone who passes by know who I'm going to vote for. And I live in a state that will go reliably blue this year.

(16,888 posts)what you mean.
PA and Ohio are quite significant - and it is easy to be worried about segments of each state, especially after the way Ohio has gone in the past few elections.
Care to explain?

(21,328 posts)Those have become weak regions for the Dems. They're not representative of our key constituencies anymore.

(16,888 posts)know Ohio better than I do, but SW Penna. is significant, but that's based on Pittsburgh, not necessarily Green, Fayette, and other counties.
Thanks for the feedback!

(21,328 posts)and the kettle that helps deliver the meal to the Dems!
Look at my next post below to see the "T" pattern.
That's why you can't get upset with what you see by being too far away from town.
We can only hope it continues that way (even though it is still so damned difficult to understand how ANYONE could have a "dRumpf" sign in their yard, let alone believe a single word that ever came out of his mouth!).
MyOwnPeace
(16,888 posts)Voting in PA is a T - across the top and down the middle - tends to be red.
The population is in the southwest and southeast corners (under the "T" - Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. This area should be blue - and has the larger population numbers.
Yes, there are exceptions to that "simple" graphic ("way-southwest" is "coal" country - dRumpf promises to make them rich again ) - but the polls have not missed PA in quite a long time - and they're looking really good for Madame President!
By the way, the "laughing" part of "making coal rich again" is NOT a slam against those workers. My Father and Grandfather were coal-miners - I know the work, the conditions, and the economic position the industry is in. It is not good. Coal is "dead" - not because of regulations, but because of economics. Natural gas, solar, and wind are cheaper alternatives - and trends follow the money!
Blacksmiths are still angry at Henry Ford for cutting down their sales of horse shoes.

(5,591 posts)We're on the ground in Maricopa & Pinal County, AZ. HRC supporters too scared to put signs out.
One gentlemen was teary eyed when he told me he didn't feel safe putting a Hillary sign out front. He's a lifelong Republican, and he's scared of neighbors that he's known for 15+ years. His story was not uncommon.

(2,792 posts)I don't argue anymore with empty-headed Trump supporters. I don't use Hillary bumper stickers, and I don't put Hillary signs in our yard. But I will be voting early for Hillary this Thursday in Maryland. In the end, voting is the only statement that really counts.

They do this s*** every cycle. For some reason Republicans think signs mean power or something. I think it just pisses people off to vote against them.

(27,813 posts)... the fascination with yard signs.
They may be a statement by a resident that says "here's who I personally support". Other than that, they accomplish nothing.
I doubt that anyone ever voted for a candidate because the house down the street has a sign for that candidate on its front lawn.
Counting yard signs is like reading tea-leaves. It seems like a fascinating endeavour at the time, but in the end has no relevance to real life whatsoever.

(50,172 posts)I live in the blue part of NH, but a person about a mile away has about 50 Trump signs in his yard. FYI, they have a nice house in a prosperous neighborhood and don't seem to be living in the type of hellscape the Trumpenfuhrer routinely describes. I don't get it either.
