2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTrump campaign is in its death throes, lashing out, acting frantic & delusional
It's wonderful to watch, is it not? They are coming unhinged, claiming the polls are showing them ahead, running TV ads filled with lies that are too little, too late. Spouting laughable threats that they will be suing Trump's accusers after the election, making an overtly racist call for their wacko followers to monitor the polls in places where minorities live.
Over the next two weeks, we are going to be hearing delusional crap that will make earlier RW tirades seem mild in comparison. Some in the media (yes, sadly I'm talking about MSNBC) will seize on the desperate narrative and give it credence, if for no other reason that to play the studied political contrarian.
So, buck up, friends. Don't let it get to you. Don't waste even an instant thinking that the tide is turning in Trump's favor. These are the navel-gazing lies people tell themselves when the end is near and they themselves know it. They are like the terminally ill person who holds out hope that they can strike a deal with some imaginary god to get them out of their looming demise. But it isn't going to happen because it never happens.
Running for president is a daunting proposition when you have your entire political party behind you. It's an exercise in futility when you are on your own, denied the support of your party and its best surrogates, fighting a war on three fronts against your opponent, your party and the media.
Like I said, it's wonderful to watch.

Question is, before or after we put out the clothing fire?
I just saw this.
I think regular Trump is even scarier than a zombie/undead version.
Sad!

(15,682 posts)But I try not to dwell on it. The Secret Service has kept President Obama safe. They'll do the same for Hillary. Right? That's how we have to think about it. They know what's going on - more than we actually do. It is their job. That is what they do.

The strategy was short sighted and therefore foolish. The chickens are coming home to roost. Yes, it is wonderful to watch.

There is a comparison to the movie "The Truman Show". It's an omnipresent telecast of one man's life that viewers can't turn away from. Secondary characters change (campaign managers) and despite multiple clues and violent interruptions trying to tell the main character that it's not real he remains oblivious. The catch phrase that lures people to keep watching is "HOW WILL IT END?" (Election Day, ?). It finally ends when Truman strays too far from control and punctures the horizon. He finds that he is actually in a bubble.

Granted, it's from Russia's RT, but they did a good job calling out the fools:

No, this is an election about competence and the future. The majority in this country leans left, not right. Sure, the RW tried their best to characterize a booming stock market, low gas prices, low unemployment, no war, declining crime rates, marriage equality and more people having health insurance as being signs of a country being on its last legs, but the majority never bought the spin.
