2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAfter the election, we must not relax.
Instead, we have to put our shoulders down and push in the direction we want to go. Only by doing that together can we overcome the inertia of this vast and unstable nation and start it moving more to the left. It's a difficult, stubborn load to maneuver.
The battle isn't won on November 9. It's just beginning. Hillary Clinton can't do the job alone. She's going to need us all to apply pressure to set the direction we go in.
Vote! Then, get ready to push as hard as you can. The other side will be pushing, as well. We have to overpower that side if we're going to gain momentum.
The work begins anew on November 9. That's the beginning, not the end, of the struggle.

So you're correct.
Things could become very un-American in the name of flag waving, gun toting, white worshiping "patriots".
The election will probably be only the beginning.

(4,167 posts)We all know what will probably happen. I have seen it play out twice, once in 1994 and another in 2010.
The right wing will be angry for 2 years criticizing everything that Clinton does. Democratic senators and congressman up for reelection will try to distance themselves from Clinton trying to appease voters who aren't going to vote for then no matter how much they try to act like Republicans. Their base will be fired up and vote in droves in 2018 while a lot of democratic voters stay home.

(18,631 posts)so the court would probably shrink to 7 members with conservatives as a majority.
Even if the Dems take the Senate the Republican members could filibuster and prevent any vote from occurring.
It seems this should be illegal but apparently it's not.

(4,167 posts)They can't act timid and try to become Republican-Lite. That is what happened during president Obama's first two years.

(20,185 posts)Even with the compromise of leaving out the public option, even though most people like it, they've spent 7 years trying to get rid of Obamacare. We can't sit on our political hands and hope that they'll like us. Pass some solid laws that will make real changes and fight like hell in 2018.

I need to say this. It won't be easy. Pushing as hard as we can, after this incredible election cycle will not be easy..but, I will do the best that I can do. That is all I can do.
