Mark Kirk Tries To Joke About Opponent Tammy Duckworth’s Ancestry

llinois Republican Sen. Mark Kirk made an ill-advised joke about the birthplace and ancestry of his Democratic opponent, Rep. Tammy Duckworth, during a debate on Thursday.

Duckworth, who is challenging Kirk for his seat, had just finished talking about her military service and that of her ancestors, dating back to the Revolutionary War.

“I forgot that your parents came all the way from Thailand to serve George Washington,” Kirk said in the debate at the University of Illinois Springfield.

It was an odd comment from a senator who has a reputation for making odd comments, but particularly impolitic given his opponent’s backstory. Duckworth was born in Thailand to an U.S. Marine father and a Thai mother of Chinese descent

“There’s been members of my family serving in uniform on my father’s side going back to the Revolution,” Duckworth said, adding that she is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

We should be honored that we have amazing people like Tammy Duckworth, who served our country but so has many of her ancestors! We need more people like Tammy serving us in the Senate where she can help our veterans and not people like Kirk who votes against our veterans!

BTW, I had no idea that Tammy has ancestors back to the Revolutionary War that have served in the Military.

...some of Kirk's inappropriate utterances were a result of his stroke. He was, however, recently given a clean bill of health as far as mental/intellectual functioning.

So, when he says vile, shitty things like that, it is because he means to say them.

8. If he was having problems

due to a stroke, he should have resigned his Senate seat. He missed an entire year of votes!

Many people have to face their health problems and make hard decisions. When my father had two strokes, he had to stop being an election judge, after forty-nine years. How he would have loved to make it to fifty years! While he was still lucid, he cut back some of his other activities. He stopped driving and serving in honor guards at veteran's funerals. He did try to keep up with current events. He was the person who informed me when Tim Russert died.

Eventually, my father became weaker physically and less lucid. He died peacefully. I think that he was a good Democrat while he still knew what that meant.

You are correct. Kirk is a mean person. None of his meanness can be blamed on his medical problems.
