North Carolina Republicans try to stop 100-year-old Grace Bell Hardison from voting

North Carolina Republicans try to stop 100-year-old Grace Bell Hardison from voting
By Joan McCarter

Just weeks before early voting began in North Carolina, Grace Bell Hardison, a 100-year-old African-American woman, was informed that her voter registration status was being challenged. If she didn’t appear at a county board of election meeting or return a notarized form she would be removed from the voting rolls.

Hardison has lived in Belhaven, North Carolina, her entire life and voted regularly for the last twenty-four years, including in North Carolina’s presidential primary in March. ....

..... mail was sent to Hardison's house, but she has all her mail delivered to a post office box. Hardison is by no means the only North Carolina voter to be targeted. The challenge list from that mailing included 138 people, 92 of whom (like Hardison) are black and registered Democrats. Hardison's family got in touch with local media, which reported those figures, and shamed Hubers into dropped his challenge. But caging is happening in other North Carolina counties as well.

This is one of the activities that has forced the Republican National Committee to "refrain from undertaking any ballot security activities" by court order since 1981, a consent decree that Democrats petitioned on Wednesday to be renewed for another eight years because of the Trump campaign's call for poll watchers to "stop crooked Hillary from rigging this election."

if they can find anyone with hands that tiny
. . . Oh, wait, there is one guy that comes to mind. Could they maybe challenge Donald Dork's right to vote, maybe challenge his right to run for president -- Get him disqualified and save their party's chances in the election ? Where are those literacy tests and drugs tests now ...

Not that I'd want to disqualify the guy when he's doing so much for Democratic down-ballot chances. Give him his due; he has helped Democrats a lot in this race.
Still I wonder if the guy really has a birth certificate handy.

Three cheers for Grace Bell Hardison, her family and the media there. At least three cheers.

I was asked at the poll table to show picture id to verify home address. Then I could use the regular voting and filled another registration form & left it with the clerk. I assume that someone decided to make everyone with a different mailing address verify with picture id their home address. If I didn't have my id with me, I may not have been able to regular vote. Also in Texas the ID can't be expired, if one doesn't drive anymore a picture id could expire in 4 years and not be renewed.
