2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIt is time for Loretta Lynch to intervene.
The election is 11 days away. Comey has introduced the possibility of a crime committed by Hillary Clinton, with no evidence of criminality provided.
Comey's action can determine who will be our next president. He knew it when he did it.
Clinton in her press conference and Pence earlier today both stated that they want Comey to release all the information that they have before the election. Both campaigns want it done.
Loretta Lynch should get Comey into her office and tell him, "I don't care how you do it, but determine if a crime has been committed and inform the public within the next ___ days to give the American people time to digest it before Election Day."
Comey completely mishandled this, he created a national mess, and he must now clean his mess up. And his boss should tell him that he had better dang well do it now.

But I'm not a lawyer.

(6,551 posts)Of course, that assumes that Comey will act responsibly.
A quick 'search' command would immediately identify the duplicates - the emails sent by Huma on the laptop to Clinton's server that have already been reviewed by the FBI. Software can efficiently reduce the number of other emails that are not classified. What remains thereafter can be identified by individual review.
This is not rocket science. The FBI can move as quickly as it is told to.

(6,551 posts)Lynch has aggressively established FBI investigations in cases where black men have been killed by police, and she did not trust local authorities. Her reputation as a prosecutor was that she is one tough broad and I say that respectfully.
She knows what is at stake.

(6,551 posts)Comey's partisanship showed in his breaking with FBI policy in characterizing Clinton's actions before saying that no indictment was forthcoming.
According to attorney Jeff Toobin and noted Harvard law professor Jack Goldsmith, the FBI has a standard policy of not releasing controversial information about a candidate with 60 days of the election.
Comey also broke that policy.

(15,438 posts)who was panicking when he saw that the Senate AND the House were going Democratic...so he intervened with a letter that leaves a LOT of room for speculation against Hillary Clinton. And the do-nothing, know-nothing Republicans in the House have happily taken it and ran with it because, you know, they can't run on their abysmal record.
Democrats run on policy ideas and plans.
Republicans run solely on character-assassinations of Democrats.
