1. The FBI does work for Obama.

Obama may be reluctant to give the appearance of interfering in the election by firing Comey. However, he can do it. So can Loretta Lynch. Be assured that something will be done behind the scenes, however. And it will not end up being good for Comey, who will be parking cars for a Trump hotel next year.

…it would look as if he was trying to obstruct justice to help his party's candidate. In fact, even if Comey were to come out tomorrow and clarify that there was no indication of wrongdoing in this case by HRC, the consensus would still be that he had "caved" to pressure by the administration.

There is NOTHING President Obama can do in his capacity as president on this that would not backfire.

The best thing he can do for Hillary now is open up about how she came to earn his trust and offer a strong character endorsement, stronger than he has to date. He has been a great surrogate but he has mostly focused on her qualifications. I think he could give her a boost by vouching for her character and trustworthiness. And that would help her a lot more than getting anywhere near the FBI shenanigans.

7. OTOH, I don't think it would be out-of-line for Obama…

…to ask for information about what has been the scope of the investigation so far, since Comey's statement was so opaque. Nor, if he finds out that nothing has been yet found that would implicate HRC, to strongly suggest a clarification is in order, since Comey's letter definitely makes it sound like there was.

The President should absolutely demand Comey to publically explain himself. He already broke FBI policy about not releasing damning candidate info near an election. He sent that letter to Republicans in Congress, he should demand clarity from the Bureau Chief.

14. After Hillary is elected in a few days

Obama should remove Comey. That way Clinton has nothing to do with it and Comey is thrown out on his ass. Obama should then make a very public promotion of a new interim director.

This whole episode is ridiculous. Comey deserves to be fired
