According to Comey's memo to his subordinates,

Yesterday, the investigative team briefed me on their recommendation with respect to seeking access to emails that have recently been found in an unrelated case. Because those emails appear to be pertinent to our investigation, I agreed that we should take appropriate steps to obtain and review them.

The laptop was subpoenaed by Preet Bharara, the US Attorney for the Southern District of NY, for his Wiener investigation. As evidence in his case, he would not be in a hurry to hand it over to another investigation, lest that somehow cause problems with his.

My guess is that the info clarifying as to whether they were sent/received by Hillary came from sources in the US Attorney's Office.

So what exactly did he see before he made that announcement?

I doubt he has even seen the emails yet, based on their statements. One of the many reasons this is an outrageous abuse of power.

He knows they exist because someone informed him, but he hasn't even seen them. I get this from reading a lot here and there. I can't link a source however.

5. This is All About a Printing Problem

Huma had problems printing out e-mails for Hillary to review so she forwarded them to this laptop to print out.the e-mails was forwarded from a unclassified State Department computer.the thing is these are not Hillary's e-mails and no way to prove Hillary ever seen any of them.as far as we know Huma never deleted any of her e-mails so these should only be duplicates.Comey should have not released anything about these e-mails until a review could be done.
