A Theory for Why Comey Sent Congress Letter

October 29, 2016By Taegan Goddard

Playbook: “The FBI stumbles across some of Huma Abedin’s emails on Anthony Weiner’s laptop. They need to get permission from Huma and her attorneys to look at the emails — or get a warrant from a judge. This would be handled by the Justice Department. Comey would have no idea what was in those emails, since they haven’t had the permission to look at them yet. So they could be explosive — or they could be nothing.”

“Huma was known to forward emails to other accounts, sometimes to have documents printed. So, in this scenario, Huma uses Weiner’s laptop. The FBI searches it after they seize it in the sexting case. They discover that Huma has emails on there. The FBI New York folks notify HQ in D.C. to ask for guidance. FBI officials kick it up the chain to Comey, who feels like he has no choice but to notify Congress, because he doesn’t want it leaking that he’s covering something up days before the election.”

What kind of fucking moron uses that as an excuse? The author is trying to exonerate Comey. That STUPID excuse would mean they have to release everything! HA HA HA HA! Why not release info on Trump / Russia connections then?

And why release vague details? There's no way for Clinton to fight back.

Did the NY FBI really just notify Comey this week?

I think he knew this a long time. He probably buckled to pressure to put it out before the election or he would be charged with a cover up after the election,

Who would pressure him to do that?

7. That makes sense - Friday news dumps used to cover up scandals now they seem to marinate

over the weekend before damage control can step in. Plus people have more free time on weekends to spend perpetuating them and indulging in the internet news/boards.

There is no way to accept that a
Fri. news dump this close to the election is not a political game.

The sad thing is if .Obama went after Comey immediately,it might make it worse.

Comey isn't exactly in a great place, himself. Congress secured his assurance, under oath, that he would report any new developments in a timely manner. But at the same time he's under the shadow of an informal precedent which requires Justice to avoid interfering in elections.

So he tosses this out in the Friday news-dump cycle, so deep into the most polarizing election in modern history that the news is highly unlikely to change the outcome. Despite the fact that television news is trying to make something of it, there's nothing there and next week will give us a new round of Donald Trump idiocy.

It ain't gonna work for Republicans, either. If Congress dares pursue it during Mrs. Clinton's foregone Presidency, they'll look like the fools they are and guarantee strongly funded Democratic opponents in '18. If they don't, they lose benefactors of their own. We know they're going to start a witch-hunt and we'll be ready to crush them for it.

The concrete around their ankles is setting up, and it's almost time to push them over the side of the boat.

across the bow.

We have to give Hillary both houses.

Republicans have promised to investigate starting day 1. Not legislate, investigate. This was to muddy Clinton up, but the real target is Huma. Republicans know she will have some position in the WH and they want to prevent that. What a better way than to investigate her emails, in their entirety.

This also puts Clinton's friends on notice that they can be targeted for investigation anytime the republicons please.

Trump promised to keep him on board. Trump's daughter in law said he'd been pressuring Comey. Buttering own bread with eye on future. Probably thinks Hillary won't dare replace him or it looks like she's covering something up. Now other side will like him more.
