A new Monmouth University poll shows a statistical tie in Missouri's U.S. Senate race and a literal tie in the state's governor's race. The results in those two races almost exactly match those in a recent Post-Dispatch poll.
Not all numbers in the two polls were similar, however. The Monmouth poll shows Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump with a 14-percentage-point lead over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in Missouri. That's more than double the 5-point lead Trump had in the Post-Dispatch poll.
The Monmouth poll was taken mostly after Friday's revelation that the FBI is probing additional emails potentially tied to Hillary Clinton's home internet server. But that doesn't appear to be the reason for the widening gap, with few poll respondents saying they are swayed by the issue.
In the Senate race, the Monmouth poll of 405 Missouri residents, conducted Friday through Monday, showed Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., leading Democratic challenger Jason Kander 47 percentage points to 46. That's well within the poll's 4.9 percent margin for error, making the race a statistical tie.
