2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBe Very Afraid of Trump's Concession Speech
Bet a dollar to a donut that Stephen Miller and Stephen Bannon have already penned a concession speech. Not your garden variety concession speech, though.
I fear that Trump's speech will invoke future obfuscation, lawsuits, civil disobedience, and a dog whistle call to arms. It will be inflammatory, undemocratic, reckless and stymieing. The media won't know what to do with it, but they'll give it a favorable environment to foment and ultimately incite. They will continue to foster this fascist uprising.
For Trump, the end is only the beginning. He's been telegraphing his modus operandi for months, now.

Mr. Ected
(9,670 posts)Trump probably realizes that his only hope to rule would be to work outside the lines of democracy. If the election fails, a coup is in order. Any concession speech would simply signal Round II to his band of Deplorables.

(827 posts)PLus no one will care about Trump day after election day. He's jumped the shark already, except we're forced to watch the show until Tues night.

(14,173 posts)but they should know by now how unpredictable Trump is, and should have a plan to counter and boldly brand this behaviour as treasonous.
But I suspect they will simply have on Kelly Anne post speech immediately to say..."oh no no that's NOT what he said at all...Donald is a peaceful person, its just you in the liberal media twisting his words to imply he is advocating violence......but you just wait until Hillary, who may have murdered 50 people herself, erases the 2nd amendment, and starts her purge."

(26,044 posts)And I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him or his followers call on Republicans in Congress to simply refuse to formally accept the Electoral College result and have the Republican-controlled House choose him as President. And, while that nightmare scenario remains a possibility, I get the feeling that lots of mainstream Republicans, including those in Congess, will be all-too-happy to be rid of him and forget he ever was their party's nominee.

(15,805 posts)Look at all the code words he uses now, the framework for violence is already in place. There are enough militant, gun toting Kooks for Trump out there to really cause havoc. Wouldn't the optics look great if law enforcement is videoed fighting and arresting rioters wearing their Trump gear.
The rightwing would blame everything of the newly elected president, Hillary, and it would never end.

(15,805 posts)They'd want major news coverage in a large and symbolic public venue to deliver their manifesto. Trump's followers have already said they plan on targeting the WH and the Court building.

(15,805 posts)I was skimming through a rightwing forum and that bunch really thought that they could bring their guns and occupy the WH lawn (kinda like the Bundy group) and force Hillary to 'give herself up.' They really, really like that 'Lock her up' chant. They're all nuts, more like the contestants from a crazy reality show inspired by the movie, Deliverance, or a bunch of 12 year old escapees from soundstage of The Lord of The Flies.
Yeah, they might be stupid, but that makes them dangerously unpredictable.

(10,252 posts)14 Ways to see Fascism by Umberto Eco
http://interglacial.com/pub/text/Umberto_Eco_-_Eternal_Fascism.html
"12. Since both permanent war and heroism are difficult games to play, the Ur-Fascist transfers his will to power to sexual matters.
This is the origin of machismo (which implies both disdain for women and intolerance and condemnation of nonstandard sexual habits, from chastity to homosexuality). Since even sex is a difficult game to play, the Ur-Fascist hero tends to play with weapons -- doing so becomes an ersatz phallic exercise.
13. Ur-Fascism is based upon a selective populism, a qualitative populism, one might say.
In a democracy, the citizens have individual rights, but the citizens in their entirety have a political impact only from a quantitative point of view -- one follows the decisions of the majority. For Ur-Fascism, however, individuals as individuals have no rights, and the People is conceived as a quality, a monolithic entity expressing the Common Will. Since no large quantity of human beings can have a common will, the Leader pretends to be their interpreter. Having lost their power of delegation, citizens do not act; they are only called on to play the role of the People. Thus the People is only a theatrical fiction. There is in our future a TV or Internet populism, in which the emotional response of a selected group of citizens can be presented and accepted as the Voice of the People.
Because of its qualitative populism, Ur-Fascism must be against "rotten" parliamentary governments. Wherever a politician casts doubt on the legitimacy of a parliament because it no longer represents the Voice of the People, we can smell Ur-Fascism."
