This is not a knock on Hillary or some sort of "I told you so" rant. I believe Hillary is a fine person and would have made a very good President. I also thought she was the best candidate for this election and offered us the best chance to win. But I was wrong.
Having had a week to digest what happened I think we have to clean house image wise. We lost the election because working people do not identify with Democrats.
When Bill Clinton won, he did so because he looked people in they eyes and said, "I feel your pain", while at the same time George HW Bush seemed oblivious to the suffering in the country. It is really that simple I think. This time those same people thought Trump cared about them and that while Hillary was probably well meaning, had a corporate image that projected to the working class voters that she was incapable of understanding what was needed to help them. When Bill Clinton was elected his image was as someone who was going to help the working class. After election, he (and Hillary) moved to the right, engaged in "triangulation", supported trade agreements, etc. and lost that identification with the people.
What I think we need to do now is put faces forward that people can identify with as being in their corner. Certainly Bernie Sanders has that appeal as does Elizabeth Warren. Their images as fighters for the people is a world away from Hillary's or Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.
So what image to you think is needed to make Democrats successful? Think about Jimmy Carter after he retired as President wielding a hammer and nails to help poor people build houses and contrast that with our candidate for President giving $225,000 speeches to Goldman Sachs. Who do you think has the better image as someone willing to help those who need it?
I think we need a new DNC Chair, a new Senate Minority Leader, a new House Minority Leader for openers. Sure, Chuck Schumer can raise a ton of money, but is it worth it when that money elects no one and he is the corporate face we present to the world?
Bernie was right, though I did not recognize it at the time. We need a "revolution" and it must start now.

(42,641 posts)The Democrats can never win if the battle is raising money. We need to raise enthusiasm for policies that will actually benefit the 99%. Trade deals are not a winning platform unless the deals include provisions against outsourcing and moving factories with no penalty.

(3,469 posts)CA senator, Kamala Harris, may run in 2020. She's has a very successful track record in every job she's had, she's a great public speaker, and she's relatively young. She could inspire a lot of younger voters.......
