Latest rightwing delusion: Putin backed Jill Stein, wanted Trump to lose
So, I get an email today from a friend with a link to a so-called "news" site claiming that Jill Stein is demanding a recount on express instructions from the Kremlin, because - get this - Putin wanted Trump to lose and is holding out hope that a recount will overturn the results of the election. The "proof" behind this claim is that Stein was on RT the other day and... and, well, talked about her demand for a recount. You are so busted, Comrade Tree-Hugger.
I consider myself a reasonable person, but when I see people willfully deluding themselves like this I want to scream. I think I'm losing it. No amount of facts or figures will penetrate their brains. Back in college I dated an ex-Moonie. Steve's parents had hired someone to "kidnap" him away from the Moonies and de-program him - a process that took two weeks, and for many weeks afterwards he needed a bodyguard to keep him from being snatched by the Moonies again. Steve ended up getting his degree in psychology and went on to help a lot of people get out of cults like the Moonies and Scientology.
And that's precisely what we're dealing with - a whole lot of people brainwashed by rightwing media and conspiracy nuts. Only there aren't enough Steves to go around to de-program this crap from their brains. It's scary.
