In response to President Obamas extensive comments about the fiscal cliff at the White House Wednesday afternoon, House Speaker John Boehner left himself little if any room to continue negotiations.
Heres the key piece of Boehners brief comments from his appearance before reporters in the Capitol:
Tomorrow the House will pass legislation to make permanent tax relief for nearly every American 99.81 percent of the American people, he said, referring to his own so-called Plan B. Then the President will have a decision to make. He can call on Senate Democrats to pass that bill, or he can be responsible for the largest tax increase in American history.
That sounds like hes giving Obama a choice between Plan B or the fiscal cliff. No more negotiations over a broader deficit reduction plan.
Boehner did not take any questions from the press, but a spokesman for the speaker affirmed that the lines of communication with the White House remain open and that Boehner was not signaling the end of negotiations.

(666 posts)go over the cliff and have Romney reduce the taxes on the rich in January. Well, Rs you bet and lost.
So Democrats -- don't cave. Taxes can be increased on the wealthy with spending cuts too. It's just that the Rs don't know what to cut and how much. Need a $ 1.2 Trillion increase in taxes; $ 400 Billion in military cuts; and $800 Billion in other cuts -- presumably across the board -- so it affects everything but yet a little --
no favorites. Speaker Boehner -- you will own this -- the rates were suppose to go up 2 years ago and the president kept it. And he told you then -- he was going to fight you on this now. Your turn to give in Mr. Speaker.

(392 posts)When there are two bills which do not alike then both houses come together to FIX their bills so that there are NO DIFFERENCES. There is still time to GET IT RIGHT.
This is just another one of the GOP pushing it around. We have to grab the crazies and right them like a mad dog. The choke hold will be to CUT DOD and send the money to social causes like DOE, NASA, HUD, etc. Something like this will send the mad devils back to their caves like mad dogs.
