http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/republicans-are-causing-a-moral-crisis-in-america/2012/03/26/gIQACSM2dS_story.html?wpisrc=emailtoafriendThey see corporate interests flood the political system with unfathomably large sums of money, they see lobbyists defining the terms of debate, and they say, Now this . . . this is what democracy should look like.
They see an environmental crisis spinning out of control, the effects of climate change being felt already, the possibility of the biggest natural disaster in modern human history. To which they ask, Anyone know if we can drill this hole any deeper?

(397 posts)And they don't care. They want it ALL NOW! NOW! ALL OF IT! And they see nothing wrong with it. Then they spout things out of the Bible to cover their iniquity. They're the 'Generation of Vipers' Jesus spoke of.

(115,732 posts)This is a letter to the editor that appeared in my local newspaper today:
As a conservative, I am a strong believer in personal responsibility: You make the decisions; you take the consequences. Big government shouldn't be able to force you to buy health insurance. But if you make the decision to have no insurance, you need to take the consequence of having no health care unless you can pay for it out of pocket. Don't expect me (through my insurance premiums or my taxes) to pay for it for you.
The laws on the books (before Obamacare) force emergency rooms to treat people who come in whether they can afford it or not. This isn't freedom, or free-market capitalism; it is just government health care for freeloaders. As soon as the Supreme Court overturns Obamacare, I hope and expect that the true conservatives in Congress will pass a "No Care for Freeloaders" law -- if you don't have insurance and don't have a big wad of cash in your back pocket, you sit outside the hospital doors and stay sick, or die if that's what it comes to. At least you will die proud to have kept your liberty.
This just might have the same effect as the "individual mandate," since no rational person would decide not to get health insurance if they had to live or die with the consequences. If the court does strike down Obamacare, "No Care for Freeloaders" might just be our only path to universal and efficient health care.

Holy crap... But reading stuff like this no longer outrages me; it just makes me depressed and sad at how debased our society has become. Not that long ago most people would be ashamed to sign their name to such a perverse, even sociopathic opinion in a major newspaper, but now, sadly, these sentiments have become mainstream. And I'd be willing to bet this guy considers himself a Christian, too.
Dude. Who would Jesus let die at the emergency room door because they couldn't afford health insurance?

(13,466 posts)This is exactly why they've carefully taken over much of the religious dialogue in this country through their cross-species marriage with the religious right back when Reagan was running. What the Churches say now has more to do with Republican party politics, and consequently Wall Street, than it does Jesus. The propaganda machine has been thorough. These people think somehow Rush Limbaugh fights for morality while our Christian, family man President is the "anti-Christ".
If it weren't real it wouldn't get published as a novel, the plot is just way too impossible.
Why Syzygy
(18,928 posts)while calling fellow American citizens "freeloaders" (Congress are on the dole FOR REAL!), they continue to give aid and comfort to nasty corporations who destroy our planet and MAKE US SICK! They are willing to pay plenty on the front end. But if the nastiness makes someone sick - you're a FREELOADER!!!

(22 posts)There are reasons for everything... even Republican craziness.
The sad truth is that there is more to it all then simple laziness or greediness.
More is going on.

(904 posts)There was a time when one person could go to work and the other could take care of their own kids. Not now. Not with lower wages, union busting, etc.
They WANT lower wages. They LIKE unemployment. When are people gonna wake up and figure out the the "family values" republicans are (and have always been) the party of the privileged. The anti-labor party. The anti-family party.
When have you ever heard a republican argue for more vacation time for workers? More family leave time for growing families? More education funds for all our kids? Safer air to breathe and cleaner water to drink for our families? More protections for people having to gamble their retirements in a 401k? Hell, even argue for a better world? Never. And you never will, because these people are the "Greed Over People" party.

(22 posts)Ack! Don't temp fate with that last comment! That's like saying "God Himself could not sink this ship!" ... watch um.
There is more going on here then anyone thinks. It is not simply a matter that those of the Left or Right are stupid. It is not the Republicans that are the bad guys in their party but the Big Business that they are forced to side with. Conservatives are naturally pro-business... but not like this...
The question is... what is causing the Conservatives to side with our mutually hated enemy?
