A recent year NINE of the ten states with the highest violent crime rates, have been PRO GUN states - as most all of the 15 highest murder rate states you posted are pro gun.

Those seven 'safe' pro gun states have approx 7 million people combined, which is about the population of new york city. NYC, a relative pin prick on a map, has the same population as ~10% of the land mass of the continental US. States with low population density generally have low murder & violent crime rates due scarcity of people, alaska notable exception due 'frontier' state, & most alaskans actually urban, located in a few 'urban' city areas.
St Louis (city) enabled shall issue ccw ~2005 & the next year rose to have the highest violent crime rate in the country, surpassing detroit that year. Montana enabled shall issue ccw 1991 & since then her violent crime rate has tripled to ~350/100k; West Virginia enabled shall issue about 1980s iirc & since then her violent crime rate has about doubled. Both dakotas v-crime rates have near doubled since shall issue ccw (tho still very low ~150/100k); pennsylvania went from 1989 ccw start year to 2009 with a higher violent crime rate, just 2009 did it marginally fall below. Indiana tends to fluctuate over & below it's start year.
This while all guncontrol states since near the same time, have seen dramatic declines in their violent crime rates (exception hawaii which remained at parity ~250/100k).
Of course the nra & gun lobby almost invariably pick on DC & Chicago as 'failures' of guncontrol, & cherry pick Maryland as well as having a high violent crime rate - in other words the gun lobby consistently complains of the smell from guncontrol areas while ignoring the stink in their own backyard.
