whether you are willing to admit it or not, the bunch of people who voted for romney want, not necessarily believe (although it seems most of them do) cuts to social security. I know it has nothing to do with the deficit. You know it. everyone on this side of the world knows it. Nonetheless, the Pubs control the house, and the radical tea party people have already derailed a vote backed by Boehner.
we also all know how a bill passes and becomes law. there will be no tax increase for the rich. there will be no continuation of the tax cuts for the middle class -- without the house voting yes on the bill. This is not the president's fault. he campaigned like a mutherfucker and kicked the shit out of romney. The problem is with us the regular americans. It would be nice if HALF the energy spent typing up 'letters to the president' calling him a shithead would use it instead to inform everyone else in their lives....maybe we wouldnt have to put up with a republican congress. again.
Im in my late 30s. in 35 years I know I will still be working. Im going to have to work until I die. I know SS benefits will barely pay for anything. Im a second generation UNION ironworker. My dad was president of the local in a major city. I grew up seeing how hard he worked. I literally, physically know how hard he worked now. Im also a soldier now for 14 years and a veteran of the iraq war. Ive been around. Ive seen how things actually work. While the war could not kill all of my optimism, it shattered every set of rosy colored glasses I would ever try and put on. This is not the future of SS I want.
I also know screaming constantly on some obscure message board doesnt do a fucking thing to change it. screaming on this board did not cause the radicals in the House to torpedo Boehners Plan B. Screaming on this board did not cause the president to pull everything off the table. Which is where we currently remain(and why the continued and non stop screaming about it is lunacy).
this chained CPI may happen though. If you ever want to get it back to where it should be - stop wasting time on this board, and go scream at people who need to be educated.

(135,425 posts)the ones they call Welfare Queens and loafers and layabouts and 'immigrants,' (said disdainfully) to have any lousy benefit they might be given, from a subsidized school lunch, to Head Start, to food stamps--you name it-- cut/slashed/eliminated.
That way, there will be plenty of silver to cross their palms when they, the "real Americans," are ready to retire.
I'll whip this out for those who won't take my point:

(31 posts)Reductions will hurt a lot of people, but something definitely does need to change. And before we can go "scream at people who need to be educated" we need to come up with viable solutions to the issue.
