Brown Knocks Potential Campaign Rival Markey Over MA Residency

PEMA LEVY 11:09 AM EST, WEDNESDAY JANUARY 2, 2013

In what could be a preview of the Massachusetts special election to fill John Kerry's Senate seat, Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) knocked potential rival Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) Wednesday with a jab about his residency. If he jumps into the race, Brown could end up going head-to-head against Markey, who announced in December that he will run for Kerry's seat. Brown lost his current seat to Senator-elect Elizabeth Warren.

“I’ll tell you what; They’re making it awfully tempting. You got Ed Markey: Does he even live here any more?” Brown said during an interview with the “Jim & Margery Show” on WTKK-FM, according to the Boston Globe.

“You’ve got to check the travel records. I’ve come back and forth [from Washington to Boston] every weekend, almost, for three years, and I see, you know, most of the delegation, and I have never seen Ed on the airplane - ever,” Brown said.

Here's background on Markey's residency, from the Globe:

Markey, a Democrat born and raised in Malden, long called his childhood bedroom in his parents’ house as his Massachusetts residence, even though his wife is a doctor at the National Institutes of Health in suburban Washington and the couple owns a home in Chevy Chase, Md.

Following the death of Markey’s father in 2000, the congressman bought his family house and continues to maintain it as his voting address, an aide said last week.

There is no one more Massachusetts than Ed Markey. He's got the accent, he's got the background, he's brought home the bacon to his state. He's at least as much a resident as Mitt Romney was when he ran for governor.

Frankly, I don't see this one flying much.

I think Scott Brown never did a town hall where MA people could ask him questions - even though Warren did while she ran and Kerry, who was not close to reelection did about 5 of them.

That you saw him in district and that he has let people ask questions has to be at least as much as Brown did.

I am currently in Capuano's district. Markey is not only an excellent public servant for MA but he is a accomplished legislator.
Clean Energy and Security Act.
Cargo on Passenger Plane being screen for explosives.
Children's Right to Privacy while on the Internet.

Markey and the states other US Senator Warren are and will be strong advocates for consumers.

Actually, Scott Brown is exactly in the same position as Markey. He has a house somewhere about DC and his wife works there too,
