House GOP Plans To Pass 11th Hour Debt Ceiling Increase...

...With a GOP wish list attached thinking that the President and the Senate will have no choice, but to choke down whatever they dream up. Then, if the President and the Senate don't choke down this right wing platform, the Republicans and the corporate media will then blame Democrats for letting the U.S. default. Then, if the President does allow the U.S. to default on all of its legal obligations, the Republicans will then turnaround and initiate impeachment proceedings against the President.

Ah, the wonders of redistricting and the benefit of having a corporate media that protects Republicans by pushing a false equivalency. The only question is whether the public will be able to see through this contrived effort to create a crisis and hold Republicans accountable despite the media's failure to hold Republicans accountable.

The little flaw in this plan is that it's not up to Obama whether to "let" the government pnwmom Jan 2013 #1

default on its obligations. It's up the Congress to raise the debt ceiling, not Obama. As long as the Senate doesn't send him something to sign, this won't be on Obama.

But there will be a lot of pressure on Harry Reid and the Democrats.

so it really does not matter. The Republicans has lost the battle on this one, and has no right to make demands.

It is time to clean up their bloat, and if Jerry Brown can do it, so can Obama! They finally got their deficit closed up.

is call the Republicans on their gambit. People took Clinton's side over Newt's reactionaries when they shut down the government in the 1990's because they didn't support the agenda they were trying to push. If House Republicans attempt to send a transparently DOA debt ceiling proposal to the Senate filled with right-wing fantasy proposals, it should be fairly easy for Senate Democrats and President Obama to fight against. All they need to do is further educate people what the debt ceiling is (really) all about, the potential consequences of defaulting on our debts if it's not obvious by then, and call for a "clean" debt ceiling bill to resolve the "crisis". I know that we now have a huge right-wing propaganda apparatus (i.e. Fox News, hate radio) now that hadn't quite come to fruition back then but, then again, people still overwhelmingly chose President Obama over Mitt Romney despite it last November, so...............?
