With an angry Newt as leader, the base and Newt can project that anger alltogether on 'others'. They can 'bond' that way.

Don't forget how he acted with Clinton during the govt. shutdown fiasco of the 90's. He was extremely whiny. There is a difference between tough and just crying to anyone that will listen. He was a baby after Romney beat him in Iowa too. It is how Newt works.
