would you be ok with President Obama

letting all the bush tax cuts expire . I feel i would be glad to accept a few hundred dollars more on my tax bill as long as the rich have to go back to clinton era rates .If we all let the president know this ,do you think after the election he would just let them expire .I think this would wipe out the bud. defecit. combined with the reductions agreed to last summer .

We all need to go back to the Clinton rates. I would go a little higher on the uber rich, double capital gains and remove the loopholes and oil subsidies. We'd be back on our feet relatively quick.

Letting all the tax cuts expire would raise taxes on a great deal of Americans who probably can't afford a return to the Clinton-era tax levels right now. If the economy is growing by the end of the year, though, and it looks like we're seeing sustained growth, I think it'd be an easier sell. But if unemployment is still high and we're not growing enough jobs (less than 400,000), I'm not so sure raising taxes across the board would help except by creating more revenue.

It's why we need a new tax deal that doesn't raise taxes on Middle America, but does on the wealthy. It's a smart balance that would wouldn't pinch the economy.

point you made about the economy not being able to take the hit . A few hundred dollars a year more in tax wont reduce spending that much. The little people would still spend all they have but the rich will not change their spending habits at all.

both states I lived in last year. Well over $1,000 total. Didn't bother me at all writing those checks. I have been on Medicaid and Food Stamps before and I know I am helping someone in my previous situation.

However, I can wait until we have the WH and decent majorities in the House and Senate. I certainly do NOT (repeat, NOT) want Republicans to be the ones doing this, nor do I want "gangs" pushing out flimsy (and likely regressive) proposals either.

We could use the money to recharge the economy and encourage alternative energy. That would be great.

Now that I have taken German residence status, I'm in the 49% bracket, which
the richest zillionaires wouldn't be paying in the USA even if the Bush tax cuts
were to vanish in a puff of smoke, and I don't even get German health care in
the package. In Germany, you don't have to make much to get to 49% either.
My younger daughter was already there the second year of her job (although as
a German citizen employed by a German employer, she DOES get a great German
health insurance package).

But when I hear guys like Romney and the Kochs, who have more money than
they'll EVER be able to spend, whine about the US tax rates, I can only laugh.
