Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) on Friday introduced so-called fetal personhood legislation that would completely outlaw abortion in the United States.
The Life at Conception Act would declare that human life began at conception, providing fertilized eggs with the same legal status as born persons.
The Life at Conception Act legislatively declares what most Americans believe and what science has long known that human life begins at the moment of conception, and therefore is entitled to legal protection from that point forward, Paul said in a statement. The right to life is guaranteed to all Americans in the Declaration of Independence and ensuring this is upheld is the Constitutional duty of all Members of Congress.
In a fundraising video for the National Pro-Life Alliance last year, the Republican senator explained that the bill would outlaw abortion without contradicting the Supreme Courts landmark Roe v. Wade decision. Citing the ruling, Paul claimed Congress had the power to define when human life began under the 14th Amendment to the Constitution.

(3,121 posts)OR even after she found out does this mean the FEDERAL government or state government will be charging the woman with murder?
Will we see cops and DAs analyzing every detail of a woman's life to see if she should be charged with first degree murder or second degree murder?
I bet the for profit prison system would love this bill.
Yes, my wife doesn't believe it will pass this time BUT she is demanding to know how many times is she going to have to worry about passage or failure because of the way some states like Mississippi are leaning toward "The Dark Ages".

(2,132 posts)Some women suspected of getting an illegal abortion are sent to prison, even if they actually had a natural miscarriage.
It's a slippery slope. Did the mother take an overdose of birth control pills? An herbal tea containing a known abortifacient? Did she use a coat hanger? Or did her body just naturally reject the baby? In a world like ours today, especially in places where abortion is illegal and punishable by jail time or fines, women may have to choose between seeking health care or avoiding punishment.
It's sad that our lives mean so little to those people making the laws.

If a pregnant woman miscarries in a car accident that was the other driver's fault, will that driver be charged with manslaughter?

(10,893 posts)A bill to outlaw abortion? Coming from a self-described libertarian? People like him and his father ruin the meaning of the word liberty. And I'm nowhere near being a supporter of theirs, but I'll bet that even I'm more of a libertarian than both of them COMBINED. You can't honestly call yourself an advocate for freedom and/or civil liberties if you not only oppose gay rights, but also restrict what women can do with their own bodies. The only policy that the Paul family pushes that is even remotely close to libertarianism is enforcing drug laws on a state-by-state basis, rather than federally. And even that policy does not call for complete legalization of drugs.

Who's gonna pay for the Kotex Police???? They did this in some country in Central America.
He doesn't know about the children in Romanian orphanages that were doomed to never have a life, when Ceausescu outlawed abortion?

(22,336 posts)Most people don't believe that, and science hasn't "long known" it either. It is his opinion. Not just his, but it isn't the opinion of "most people" either. Most people are pro-choice to some extent or another.
