Limbaugh On Petition Against Carson: ‘We’re Losing The Country’

TOM KLUDT 11:58 AM EDT, SATURDAY MARCH 30, 2013

Dr. Ben Carson said Friday that he may step down as commencement speaker at Johns Hopkins over anti-gay remarks, prompting conservative shock jock Rush Limbaugh to concede that the country is lost.

Carson told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell that he is prepared to acquiesce students who are circulating a petition to replace the emerging right-wing star, who compared same-sex marriage to pedophilia and bestiality during an appearance on Fox News, as the medical school's graduation speaker. After already waving the white flag on same-sex marriage, Limbaugh on Friday lamented the student-led movement against Carson.

"These are students where this guy works, and they don't want him to be their commencement speaker because of his political beliefs as espoused on TV," Limbaugh said, according to an official show transcript. "Medical students! Not social workers, medical students. To me that's evidence that... I don't know what it is. We're losing the country or what have you." He picked up the rant later.

"I still can't believe that the med students at Johns Hopkins said, "We don't want Ben Carson here." You...? (interrupting) It's over same-sex marriage. Of course. I know he made a comment about same-sex marriage. Of course. I forgot to throw that in," Limbaugh continued. "He spoke about same-sex marriage, and he offended them. They don't want him there. They don't want him there. Do you understand why I said this is inevitable now, folks?"

to spouting hateful bullshit.
Yes, he is very wealthy and won't suffer any monetary discomfort in the least.
His bloated ego is finally getting pinged. His sense of being entitled to tell large groups of morons what to do is getting, perhaps, a bit shaken.

He's not exactly a poor boy struggling for his next meal, after all. A little principle in the face of bigotry goes a long way.

He is not disturbed, he doesn't think he owns the country.

He's an entertainer, a radio personality, always has been. He is intelligent and a master manipulator of his audience. If he says " we've lost the country", he is trying rile up his audience into calling with battle cries "we haven't lost yet" and the like. He knows exactly why Carson's words were hateful and feigns ignorance. Spin spin spin.

While I am surely missing the drama because I never listen to Limbaugh, this much is true, the same gender marriage issue is fully cooked. The war is over and they (the opponents) have lost. It is only a matter of time. My kid's generation has little to no problem with same gender marriages. Same gender oriented folks are fully integrated among them for the most part, and largely without issue. At some point in time they will run the country. I would prefer that my generation gets this done, but it might not. However, my kid's generation is a very reliable backup.

Perhaps what Rush is seeing is that same gendered marriages are not even slightly controversial with my kid's generation, but people opposed to these marriages are rejected immediately, with substantial force, and with little or no prompting. From talking to my kids, it is just natural at a gut level from their point of view to reject this sort of thing.

The thing I am sure Rush misses is that he still probably thinks something can be "done" about this, to "turn that generation around". There is nothing, it is fully cooked and over.
