San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro wins 3rd term

The San Antonio Express-News reports (http://bit.ly/10qNKp9 ) that Castro received 66.5 percent of the vote in his race against six challengers.

Castro, whose twin brother is Democratic U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro of San Antonio, was looking for a repeat of his performance two years ago. That's when he took more than 80 percent of the vote in a five-person race.

This year, he was challenged by concert security officer Sergio Falcon, navy veteran Michael Idrogo, private security officers Rhett R. Smith and Jesus G. Reyes, community organizer Irma Rosas and semiretired Raymond Zavala.

Castro was first elected in 2009 to what's officially a nonpartisan office and gained prominence with his keynote address at last summer's Democratic National Convention.

Unfortunately, my own district council seat will now be decided by a runoff.
