Should Oklahoma Be Denied Disaster Relief?

Oklahoma gets the third most amount of disaster relief money issued.

"Sen. James Inhofe, a Republican from Oklahoma, argued that there is no comparison between Hurricane Sandy relief, which he voted against last fall, and aid for his state in the wake of Monday's devastating tornado because the two are "totally different."*

Are Republican Senators James Inhofe and Tom Coburn the most loathsome politicians in the country? Oklahoma undeniably needs FEMA aid after the tornados, but these politicians refused aid to other disaster-stricken states, including those hit by Hurricane Sandy. Why do they believe their state is more deserving than others?

I was very pissed these reps/sens held up the money for Sandy but I'm not into the revenge thing. We're supposed to be better than that.

But the two Senators Inhofe and Coburn should be reminded and hounded everyday in public media, on blogs, in print and over the internet that they voted against other American's receiving the same kind of aid after the disaster's struck their cities and states. Evil never rests and neither should we.

They should be reminded everyday money is doled out to Oklahoma that they denied immediate assistance to Sandy victims. I'd like to see people fill up their voicemail boxes every single day (which wouldn't be very hard) as well. We should provide assistance, but at the same time we should hold these two tools responsible for their vote on the Sandy aid. Those who pick and chose where assistance goes are idiots, and Cobern and Inhofe are fine examples of being idiots.

BTW-They should also be reminded when a right wing terrorist nutjob blew up a building in their state the nation came to their aid without question providing money and supplies to help those in need.

but I'm not opposed to Obama or Reid pointing out which side their bread is buttered on.

OK voters put Inhofe & Coburn in the Senate, repeatedly. They have been a cancer on this entire nation.

I put them in the same category as AZ & KY's Senate duos. Cancers.

If the request for assistance is made with no strings attached, then the state should not be denied aid.

However, if Coburn and Inhofe demand cuts whereby someone else goes without or suffers in order to fund the aid to OK, then they should be denied aid. Make the voters in OK protest or complain to those two scumbags until they change their mind. They voted them into office so they can deal with the consequences of electing such idiots.

Texas, Mississippi, and all the rest of the south and mid-west south. BUT. They are Americans, they are people, they are hurting and miserable and maybe this will give them pause about who they elect for congress. Probably not but we can hope. They deserve the aid. They dont deserve those politics.

Could you possibly paint southern states with a broader brush?? You do realize that those states have lndividuals who are liberal? I happen to now live in Arkansas. And the people for the most part are normal hard working individuals and while I may not agree with some peoples politics they are as a rule nice people.

That reminds me of some of my fellow former brits, who think that being british makes them somehow superior to average americans.

Disaster is disaster whether it hits home (like what Sandy did to my county) or 2000 miles away. They should not be approved or denied based on whether the state is red or blue, how much they got in the past, etc.

Whether it is Sandy and the NJ shore, Katrina and New Orleans, or a tornado in OK, they all need to be treated the same.

Now some will say it is mean, BS it is nice giving the people the austerity they want and believe in.

Besides OK and almost every single red state are TAKERS and it is way past time they take care of themselves .

Any federal aid OK gets needs to be deducted from other federal $’s OK already gets.

I say hold their feet to the fire and make them eat the BS they spew about austerity.

The only reason they spew the nonsense is because the rest of us don’t call them on their BS, some will feel sorry for em and give them money and they next day the OK idiots will be screaming about socialism, austerity and how there is no money for others when they need it

...why don't they set an example and refuse even a penny of federal relief aid. Here's their opportunity to show the entire country that "states can always take care of themselves" which could validate this long-held conservative principle to a skeptical American public.

Inhofe and Coburn should be summoned to the front of the chamber and given every opportunity to apologize for their shamefully regional and partisan vote against aid to the upper Atlantic coast after Sandy.

Shaming those two assholes is not out of the question. However, it should not delay aid for more than a few minutes.

If it makes you fell better , most of the victims seem to be working class people who SHOULD be voting DEM ... even if they haven't figured that out yet.

They really should have to face the consequences of their actions but that lesson is harsh and cruel. And thus, like a child that never gets punished, they'll never learn a damn thing about voting against their own interests.
