Setting aside the Salvation Army's record on LGBT, in our town they operate a food pantry and used to serve breakfast. I worked my church's free supper last night - we had more people than usual, and lots of people requesting seconds. Someone told me "the Salvation Army isn't serving breakfast any more"

People are going hungry because of the sequester, but at least the security lines at the airport are running smoothly.

3. It amazes me how many people don't see the connection there.

If you cut funding to agencies and organizations that serve the public at the same time donations are down, it's the public that suffers.

No more deals on the sequester or budget that fail to include defense cuts.

4. Did I mention that school is out for the summer, so no school lunches or breakfasts, either.

5. This is actually part of the reason DC has discussed year-round schooling...

and encourages students into "summer retention and advancement" classes even if they don't need "summer school".

By keeping them in school over the summer or part of the summer, they can insure they're eating and not running the streets getting into trouble.
