2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Old Extreme GOP vs. the New Extreme GOP: Whoever Wins, We Lose
They're back - and they're more extreme than ever. GOP House leaders John Boehner and Eric Cantor are still pushing economic ideas disproved a century ago, peddling deep spending cuts that would inflict more misery on the already-beleaguered majority. But that's not enough for the even more extreme right, for the politicians named Cruz and Paul and Lee, for the groups with names like "FreedomWorks" and "Club for Growth," and for the moneyed interests who fund them all.
The new Republican right is a tangled nest of snakes. Legislators and observers reach into it at their own risk.
However beyond the pale these new forces may seem, remember: The fact that their enemies are extreme doesn't mean that Boehner and Cantor aren't.
Hostage of the Week
Boehner and Cantor are once again preparing to use procedural gimmicks to hold the US government hostage to their pro-billionaire, pro-corporate agenda.

(9,600 posts)The deficit shrank 35% from last year, which puts it on track to be the smallest in five years, according to the AP. The U.S. government posted a narrower budget deficit in August compared with a year ago, keeping the annual gap on track to be the smallest in five years. The deficit for August was $147.9 billion, the Treasury reported Friday. That brought the annual budget gap through the first 11 months to $755 billion, or 35 percent lower than the nearly $1.2 trillion in red ink for the same period last year.
But most people will not know this fact since it is rarely reported.

(5,049 posts)That's what it boils down to. Any citizen serious about the future of America and the future of the world stopped calling themselves Republicans years ago. It's a shame the elected GOP lost all interest In governing America and is only interested in cashing their corporate payola.
