On Sundays This Week With George Stephanopoulos, Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan argued that the tea party was a new fixture in American politics, a movement that doesnt want to usurp a major political party but eliminate it.
The comment came during a discussion of electoral forces going into the 2014 midterms, with former Bush consultant Matthew Dowd argued that demographics were shifting in the Democratic Partys favor.

Noonan used to be Reagan's speechwriter. David Frum used to be GW Bush's speechwriter. Yet both are willing to tell the hard truths about the conservative movement. Hmm.

(13,877 posts)"parent" party. It's how our system is set up and controlled. Perhaps we should be happy in this case and pray the Democrats can keep the Big Tent up through 2016.

(35,015 posts)They were named and installed with big money behind them; not a grassroots organization. They have an R after their name, and have the ability to primary establishment Republicans, which was the tactic all along.

Fox News and the hysteria and single-minded nature of their faction attracted significant funding and political gains with the intent of knocking out Obama while infiltrating the Republican party. They gained the publicity status of a 3rd party, to be sure. It didn't work so, currently, Big Money (Kochs, Chamber of Commerce, etc.) is now leaving.
The Republican establishment is now primarying them. Their influence peaked with the Cruz stunt and is now in decline.
