A more progressive candidate would probably have no chance in NC in the general election--not yet, anyway. She'd be weakened by a tough primary fight. No sense in giving that seat to the Republicans if we don't need to, and besides, any NC Republican who replaces her would probably be in the Ted Cruz vein--not what we need more of in the US Senate these days. Helms-Dole-Burr--yecch.
