Rep. Latham (R-IA) Opts Out Of Running For Another Term

Rep. Latham (R-IA) Opts Out Of Running For Another Term

December 17, 2013, 5:30 PM EST

Rep. Tom Latham (R-IA) won't run for reelection in 2014.

Latham announced his decision Tuesday afternoon shortly after Reps. Jim Matheson (D-UT) and Frank Wolf (R-VA) both said they would retire once their current term ended.

"It is never a perfect time or a right time to step aside," Latham said in a statement. "But for me, this is the time. I want to share with you my decision that I will not be a candidate for any office in November 2014."

Latham had been mentioned as a potential Republican Senate candidate for outgoing Sen. Tom Harkin's (D-IA) Senate seat.

I don't know. But the Frank Wolf (R-10th, VA) seat is now a toss-up. See link below Tx4obama Dec 2013 #2

Latham has always done better than Republicans in the district
Former state sen Stacy Appel is running on the Democratic side

So it is a possible pick up
