Giuliani: Democratic lawmaker leading Christie probe should step aside

By Tom Curry, National Affairs Writer, NBC News

Updated 10 minutes ago

The Democratic lawmaker leading an investigation of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is not impartial and ought to step aside, Christie ally Rudy Giuliani said Sunday.

In an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, Giuliani said state Assemblyman John Wisniewski, the head of the special legislative committee investigating the closing of lanes leading to the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee, N.J., is “no longer an impartial arbiter of the facts” because he had announced that did not believe Christie, “the person who's the ultimate focus of the investigation.”

Giuliani said Wisniewski “should not be handling this investigation. It gives it no sense of credibility” and is “a partisan witch hunt.”

The former New York mayor said the Democrats have mounted “a very, very well-orchestrated Democratic kind of organizational effort to try to hurt Gov. Christie, who was the only Republican who was beating Hillary Clinton in any poll at any time.”

But we should never be surprised by what comes out of Rudy's foul mouth. Have to admit, his close alliance with Christie may backfire on him however (which will be delightful to watch).

And lives here - he can say whatever he wants. But for now he needs to STFU.

And then there's Ms. Weinstein on the other committee...with calls and letters and concerns recorded and un-responded to. What are they going to do about her committee? Or the Feds looking into the Sandy money still awaiting the favors needed to disburse it?

They are clutching at straws, as my Dad would say.

Giuliani just needs to stay out of it, really.

Ms? Wildstein? State Senator Loretta Weinberg, thank you very much. Senator Weinberg will do a thorough investigation in the US Senate.

Glad you're here! Gee, rudy, like YOUR team has never EVER ganged up on some Democrat? Hmmm... Yeah, SUUUUUUURE you're all pure as driven snow. Shut up and go away. Unless of course, you'd like to advise chris christy on how to wage a - ahem - er - uh - fabulously effective presidential campaign. Let everybody pass you by and THEN start, weeks late, in Florida. That just worked like gangbusters, didn't it? As good as it did to center your terrorism headquarters in the World Trade Center after it already had suffered one attack... And do tell us all about the wonders of bernie kerik and what a straight shooter he's always been...

Actually, ol' rudy sounds like a one-man gang who can't shoot straight. Where it REALLY counted, again and again he didn't measure up. Amazing he got as far as he did. I guess it's another lesson in the power of sheer bravado. And it failed miserably when he aimed for the finish line. Kinda like chris christie's schtick is doing now, 'eh?

Patrick Moses Dorismond (February 28, 1974 – March 16, 2000) was a security guard and father of two children who was killed by an undercover New York Police Department officer during the early morning of March 16, 2000. The undercover police officer approached Dorismond and his friend as they were standing outside the "Distinguished Wakamba Cocktail Lounge" and asked him where he and his partners could purchase marijuana.[1] One of the officers, Anthony Vasquez, shot Patrick Dorismond in the chest during a scuffle.

The officers claim the scuffle began when Dorismond became angry after they propositioned him, loudly declaring he was not a drug dealer. They state he threw a punch at a second officer and with his friend, Kevin Kaiser, began attacking him. Officer Vasquez said he came to his partner's aid, hearing one of the men yelling "Get his gun!", drew his weapon and identified himself as a police officer. He claimed Dorismond grabbed the gun causing it to discharge into his chest.[2]

Dorismond's friend, Kevin Kaiser, claims that neither of the officers identified themselves.[3] He says he attempted unsuccessfully to pull Dorismond back from the confrontation. He described the first undercover cop who had approached Dorismond as aggressive and “in their face.” Kaiser said it was one of the cops who initiated the fight, hitting Dorismond first.[4]

Reaction of Mayor Giuliani

Much of the controversy over the Dorismond shooting revolved around then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani who was then in the midst of an abortive United States Senate campaign. His release of Dorismond's sealed juvenile delinquency record immediately after the shooting raised the ire of the African-American community as well as critics of the Mayor. The Mayor's office defended the release using the rationale that the right to privacy does not survive an individual’s death.[3][5] Giuliani also pointed out that he only wanted to show that Dorismond was "no altar boy."[6] In fact, Dorismond had attended the same Catholic school as Giuliani and had been an altar boy.[5] Giuliani's actions became a hot-button issue in his Senate campaign against Hillary Clinton and cost him several points in the polls.[7]
