Report: Obama Has Used The Word 'Gay' More Than Any Past President

AP – JANUARY 23, 2014, 5:25 PM EST

WASHINGTON (AP) — Which recent president has used the word "gay" most often in a public speech, statement or proclamation?

The nation's largest gay rights group, The Human Rights Campaign, did some digging and found that President Barack Obama has used "gay" 274 times since taking office in 2009. The campaign says that's more often than any of Obama's recent predecessors: Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

A new report from the group says Obama has used the words "lesbian," ''gay," ''bisexual" or "transgender" a total of 423 times.

The advocacy organization credits the president's copious use of these four words with playing a large role in the political mainstreaming and acceptance of LGBT people and marriage equality in American society.

not only discussing gay-related issues this often and being the 1st president to support gay rights, he has really done a lot to help spark the debate and to bring gay rights to the mainstream. His words have helped more people be happy with themselves, and help some of those in the closet come out. Even Stephanie Miller (who happens to be gay) has said that he has done more in favor of gay rights than any of his predecessors.
Nice to see.

2014 is a very different time for gay people in America than 2000 was, which was the last time a Democrat was in the WH. It's called generational change and it is how the world has evolved for thousands of years, expanding freedom and equality, slowly but inexorably, for one group of people after another.
