Looks like Obama has his Harriet Miers judicial nomination

Progressives are angry about the pick for a seat on a Georgia District Court, and from the looks of his record, can't blame them....The nominee is Michael Boggs....Actually, he was the choice of GA's 2 republican senators, in a deal struck w/the White House to allow 11th Circuit nominee Jill Pryor thru, who has been held up 2 yrs now...Deal also allowed couple OTHER District Court nominees thru and a Circuit Court seat chosen by Chambliss/Isackson....Simply put, it was a lousy deal by the White House....

just making the observation that just like the GOP was disappointed in W's pick for a judicial seat, progressives are disappointed in this pick...

And if you look at Michael Boggs' record, he definitely fits the bill for a judicial nominee ------ for a Republican President....Liberal groups should abhor this choice...

being disappointed with W nominating meiers, though she was non-confirmable to the SCOTUS.

Further, a four for one trade where the Administrations get three more important courts than the "bad" nominee ... doesn't sound like a bad deal to me, especially when one considers whoever the Georgia Senators would give the nod.

the state and I seriously doubt the Republican Senators in Georgia is going to summit a liberals name. We need to get Democrats elected.

There is a tradition of Senatorial Courtesy where the President does get approval from the state's Senators. Now this is rarely observed when the Senators are from another party, but there are two things in play here. The first is that Obama got a handful of judges through to confirmation, and the second is that we have a Democratic candidate for the Senate who was leading in the polls just a few weeks ago, and we also have an incumbent Republican Governor who hasn't registered above 50% in ANY poll during the past year.

If Obama nominates someone against the wishes of Georgia's two Senators, you know the drill. It's "feet on the desk" all over again for weeks on Fox News. It's Obama being a dictator, it's Obama being worse than Stalin, it's Obama having sex with livestock. Who the hell knows what's going to come out of those idiots. And all that will hurt chances of Michelle Nunn and Jason Carter.

Getting several judges confirmed and giving the party a fighting chance is worth a lousy pick for the GA District Court.

14. The best thing that could happen is let Boggs have his hearing, clear the Senate Judiciary Committee

then be defeated on the senate floor...Maybe it will be a 48-52 defeat, figure Pryor, and/or Manchin could vote for him...

by pointing out this was the same process that got Justice Sotomayor appointed to the District Court in New York by President GHW Bush.
