Let's hope this will be the first of many Teabagger primary wins that deliver elections to Democrats in the end.

that Democratic strategist had bet on Lugar's fall and are prepared to take on the teaparty guy.

Is this a "Be careful of what you wish for moment?"

Because of the Tea Party challenge, Lugar had been pushing himself to the right, so not a lot of difference between them.

Lugar is dead in the water, even with his rightward drift. Many in the Indiana gop hate/distrust Lugar because of his "working across the aisle", because of his residency problems and because "he's just too old."

This leaves an extremist gop candidate that the Democrats can cast as ideologically polarizing and 'batsh!t crazy", as the teaparty label rightly indicates.

I would think that the Democratic candidate would have a much harder time beating a right-leaning Lugar. And if elected, Lugar would be far less likely to work across the aisle.

I think it was only through hard work. Many union people were out knocking on doors and working for Obama. That is what we will need again, for all the offices up for grabs in Indiana.

Luger is a victim of his own actions. He's 80. He's been in the Senate for going on 40 years. He hasn't really lived in Indiana for decades. He is out of touch with his electorate. Votes for Mourdock are probably just as much votes against Lugar as they are votes for the teabaggers and their agenda. Donnelly has a chance for picking off this seat - a slim chance, but enough of one where the GOP is going to have to devote resources to the fight. And a dollar spent in Indiana is a dollar not spent in Wisconsin or Massachusetts or Virginia or Florida.

The sign present everywhere in rural Indiana (thanks to Dick Armey's Freedom Works): "Retire Lugar." If Lugar wins today I'll have to ask whether I can borrow some for November

Meanwhile, should Lugar lose today (I agree that he will, and that it's his fault for allowing his "Hoosier cred" to fade - that's super-important here, though it didn't kill Dan Coats' candidacy), I'm comforted by the And if Lugar does lose (I suspect he will), there's always this mailing I received yesterday from the US Chamber of Commerce (touting Lugar's support of the Keystone XL pipeline and opposition to "Obamacare," cap & trade and financial reform) to comfort me.

A poll a few days ago had Lugar down by ten points. So no big surprise.
