Poll: Toni Preckwinkle Leads Rahm Emanuel by 8 Points in 2015 Mayor’s Race

(Chicago) – Poll: Mayor Rahm Emanuel‘s pursuit of a second term could be thwarted by Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle were she to decide to run, a new survey says. In an exclusive poll commissioned by The Illinois Observer, Preckwinkle captures 40% of likely voters, while Emanuel snags 32%, leaving 28% of voters undecided in a head-to-head matchup.

The city wide survey of 724 likely voters, (margin of error = 3.49%) from March 25 to March 26, 2014 conducted by La Grange-based Strive Strategies, finds that 42% of African-American voters say they would support Preckwinkle, while only 28% say they would vote for the mayor. The remainder, 30%, are undecided.

Among women, 40% would support Preckwinkle, while 32% remain undecided. Only 29% of women indicate that Emanuel would be likely to earn their vote in this hypothetical contest.

“Overall, 53% of likely voters, those who have participated in the last two city elections, believe that the City of Chicago is headed in the wrong direction,” Illinois Observer editor David Ormsby told ABC7 TV political reporter Charles Thomas on Friday.

I can say that Rahm has been a serious disappointment.

A good bit of my remaining family works for the city in one way or the other, and they feel betrayed by the current administration. Particularly the ones that work for CPS. If there's a decent challenger, Rahm is toast.

Unless you earn in the seven figures or all of your income is from financial assets you don't register on his radar.

Just elect all republican'ts and let it all fall down. It's that whole "creative destruction" meme. Just let it all go to shit because disaster is the best opportunity.
Then you can rebuild from a blank slate! I don't wish that pain on anyone.

I think that Chicago Dems need a wakeup call as our votes have been too reliable in the past.

No need to let it all go to hell, but we can make them work for those votes.

Too many democrats talk about how gov't can help people and then treat the gov't employees like shit.

The very best governor we ever had for employees was a republican and still my union AFSCME supported the Democrat when he was up for re election. The candidate they supported won but in 4 years didn't even give state employees a cost of living raise.

And it probably doesn't get any better for Rahm between now and then.

At a minimum, Preckwinkle ensures an April runoff.

My personal favorite scenario?

She becomes the second woman to be elected Mayor of the the City of Chicago.

The filing deadline is in December, 2014. The election is February, 2015. That is only 10 months from now. Collection of signatures to get on the ballot begins in just a few months. Not far at all.
