Minn. GOP Nominee Running for Congress Because Evolution 'Made His Daughter Cry'

Aaron Miller, the Minnesota Republican Party’s nominee for the 1st Congressional District, said this week that he wanted to win because learning about evolution made his daughter cry, and he wanted to make sure that schools were not forced to teach it.

The Mankato Free Press reported last month that Miller told a story to a Republican county convention about how his daughter became “very upset because she had to learn about evolution at school.” Miller claimed that even the teacher expressed agreement with the daughter, but said that the evolution lesson was a requirement. The candidate refused to provide any other details at the time.

“There’s a war on our values by the government,” he insisted. “We should decide what is taught in our schools, not Washington, D.C.”
Over the weekend, Miller was officially named the Republican nominee, and he took the opportunity to repeat the anti-evolution story.

“He also called for more religious freedoms,” the Free Press noted. “He repeated his story about his daughter returning home from school in tears because evolution was being taught in her class. He said the teacher admitted to not believing in the scientific theory to his daughter but told her that the government forced him to teach the lesson.” Again, he declined to provide the details necessary for reporters to verify the story. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/04/08/minn-gop-nominee-running-for-congress-because-evolution-made-his-daughter-cry/

That kind of crazy won't sell in MN CD 1. Folks there in Southeastern Minnesota are not nutcases. They're normal, down-to-earth working people, and they're pleased with the job Democrat Tim Walz has been doing for them. They've elected him four times in a row now. Here's to the fifth!

if these people could cook up some religious-sounding bullshizz, that kids could spout to avoid math class, they'd win the hearts and minds of millions and millions of Americans

I'm thinking, y'know, like, "If I have to choose between Genesis and Geometry, I'll choose Genesis" -- or mebbe "My church believes Satan invented algebra"

And a theory is just an unsupported belief...like the "theory of evolution"?

or home schooling where they can choose not to learn facts...

If he wants to use our tax dollars to educate his children, then he doesn't get to dictate that his whacked out beliefs be taught.

Does his daughter cry when her dad uses her for political purposes?

If the teacher didn't believe in evolution he probably made it sound terrifying on purpose.

An effective biology teacher can teach evolution even to kids who have creationist beliefs. But telling them "I don't believe it either" is not the way to do it. That said, you don't want your kid to be exposed to the teaching of evolution, send her to a private school where they don't teach it.

dangerous times we live in folks.

Sure GOP voters - go let them abolish public education and remove standards, then teach your kids whatever bullshit you want. How long do you think this country will survive if the population is a bunch of stupid ignorant idiots?
