"We can't bury our heads in the sand and pretend that if 'big government' disappears, so will society's toughest problems. That's just magical thinking -- and it's also dangerous thinking," Warren writes. "Our problems are getting bigger by the day and we need to develop some hardheaded, realistic responses. Instead of trying to starve the government or drown it in the bathtub, we need to tackle our problems head-on, and that will require better government."

No need to vote.
Everything happens for a reason. It's part of His divine plan.

(31,849 posts)And those same folks are told by their "leaders" to petition their elected officials to act in a manner that is clearly opposed to the direction of that "divine plan." For example, petitioning government to put allow prayer in schools, ban SSM and abortion rights. How can one hold, both, a divine plan of an omnipotent God AND the need for personal prayers of intercession ... and political activity, to affect that which is playing out, i.e., the "divine plan."

They honestly believe all that "Demoncrat" crap and believe the GOP is "God's Own Party".
Hell, their right wing preachers tell them that on Sunday.

Makes you want to know how many churches are playing the market.

(14,255 posts)that getting rid of Big Government will make big problems go away. I think they have been carefully cultivated in order to plant that idea in their noggins.
I believe the tea party types have been duped by the Kochs and others who merely do not want to pay any taxes or have any regulations whatsoever, and who want to "re-engineer" the country to suit themselves. Couple this with the global desires of the IMF - quite a bit of power and money bent on dismantling and gorging themselves.
Yeah, we sure do need better government. Not Tea Party, not Libertarian, not Third Way.

(31,849 posts)But Third Way concerns me far less than the tea party and libertarians ... in fact, I do not even think it appropriate that 3rd Way be on the "bad government" list ..., in that the latter two promote philosophies of destroying the current political system; whereas, the former advocates a philosophy that works within the system.
