although I think Stewart wisely turned it down because of their long standing format of having 2 or more frothing wingnuts and one tepid liberal who always gets shouted down by the wingnuts.

He's a comedian at heart, and Meet The Republicans is practically a corpse. It needs to die.
I think he is as sharp as they come, and would do a GREAT job with it.
But, he has his spot, where he can be HONEST and say that needs to be said.
No reason to put himself into a spot where can't speak truth to stupidity, and as noted, in a program going the way of the Edsel.
