Tom Foley has a net worth of $100 million+ and only paid $673 in total taxes.
After this revelation, Tommy no longer wants to debate Dan Malloy.

(14,531 posts)I understand this is a close race. This should do Foley in. He owns a 10 million dollar home, 5 million dollar yacht, 1 million dollar plane and a Ferrari- yet has not paid any taxes for 3 years. He is also financing his own campaign.
This from the Hartford Courant article today:
Foley has repeatedly laughed off Democratic criticism about his zero percent tax rates.

(72,790 posts)Sadly, Malloy hasn't been much better. I feel Foley could win just because he is not Malloy.
I do think, though, that Malloy will pull it out, but it's going to be close, imo.

(20,176 posts)There's a sizable number of Democrats I know who are willing to vote for Foley just to get rid of Malloy. They'd vote for anybody just to get rid of Malloy...is this the death of "electable, moderate" Democrats in CT? (Not that there's any risk of any Democrat other than Malloy losing a statewide race. I mean is this the death in CT of this kind of business-friendly/anti-labor/moderate 3rd-way-styled Democrat?)
They figure the legislature will keep Uncle (keep your hands off my) Moneybags in line and they can simply oust him in 4 years for a Democrat that isn't Dannel Malloy. I fear they're wrong about the strength of the legislature to keep down an ideologue who doesn't care what he has to give up to get tax-cuts and gut spending.
