Prince to perform Concert in BALTIMORE Sunday, May 10. (The event is set for 8 PM at Royal Farms Arena. The date is MOTHER'S DAY).
In the wake of Freddie Grey's death and subsequent civil unrest in Baltimore, Prince has announced a special "RALLY 4 PEACE" Concert at the Royal Farms Arena this Sunday night.
Prince is one of many celebrities who have come out in support of Baltimore, its residents, and civil rights in light of recent events.
He performed a similar surprise concert in MINNESOTA last Saturday and has recorded a tribute song, "Baltimore" that addresses the unrest in Baltimore and the socio-political issues around the country in the wake of a slew of killings of young black men.

The Allman Bros. with Dwayne, Sly and the Family Stone, Elvis, Joni Mitchell, James Brown, Dylan, Ike and Tina Turner, Ritchie Havens, Bonnie Raitt, Stanley Clark, Aretha Franklin, Jackson Browne, Herbie Hancock, Santana, Bruce Hornsby, Sinatra, Anita Baker at Obama's 1st Inaug., Jakob Dylan, Raul Malo, Wes (Ellington) Felton of DC, singer, poet and one of my favorites.

(20,450 posts)It was last minute announcement. I have work the following day. The drive to Baltimore isn't that far from where I live, but it is a hassle. Plus, I'm going out of town this week, and I just couldn't bring myself to shell out $200-$400 only a few days before leaving town.
I really do hate when Prince does this. People can't come up with that kind of money in such a short people of time, and he is notorious for putting on this "spare-of-the-moment" shows.

originality and eccentricity Prince isn't! I agree about the impromptu, last minute events and the rush for high priced tickets on very short notice that eliminates many. He must be aware of this and could suspend it on occasion I'd think.
I read in the last year he's done surprise appearances in MN, in NY and invited people by twitter, to his Minnesota Studio for a Tribute to Baltimore. Maybe he's just very impulsive, or guided by intuition. Some folks rely on forecasts, horoscopes etc. about when and where to travel, and to do things- when 'the timing is right'. Nancy & Ronnie Reagan were involved in this I understand. Who knows-

(41,131 posts)would make sense. He's been attuned to what's happening in the city, in Detroit which he considers a second home and throughout the US concerning racism, poverty and police action and policy.

(11,833 posts)Does anybody hear us pray?/For Michael Brown or Freddie Gray/Peace is more than the absence of war, Prince sings in the heartfelt Baltimore.
Prince will perform at the "Rally 4 Peace" concert at Baltimore's Royal Farms Arena on Sunday. He will be joined by funk-rock group 3RDEYEGIRL. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Baltimore-based youth charities. Audio from the show will be streamed live on music service Tidal service.
