Why a Gingrich nomination scares me.

Hell, Gingrich even being considered a viable candidate by a notable percentage of GOP primary voters is scary to me. Gingrich's popularity is frightening because it is based almost completely on resentment. People aren't voting FOR Gingrich, they are voting AGAINST Obama and the Democratic party. What does Gingrich stand for? What can he DO for this country? What on earth would make him attractive enough to earn someone's vote? Nothing positive and that's scary. The politics of hate are beginning to take hold and it should make all of us a little nervous. If Gingrich wins the Republican nomination, it is going to be a really bad sign for the GOP and that's a really bad thing for all of us. It means that for a significant portion of our electorate, ugliness trumps substance. It would mean that there are a lot of people out there who don't mind throwing this country under a bus as long as they get to hear their bitterest feelings vented loudly on the national stage. And it means that for reasons that really aren't quite clear to me, a lot of people simply HATE Barack Obama. I honestly don't understand it. He has done the typical Democrat twist and tried to appease as many people as possible; sometimes in the face of his own base's disapproval. But a big chunk of Republicans despise him as a man and as a leader. I can only think of a few reasons to so completely hate Barack Obama: A) Racism B) listening to and believing hate radio and Faux News C) Racism. I think a lot of people's problems with Obama are a combination of A & C with a little B thrown in to agitate things.

It's so OTT sometimes it's hard to believe that they don't hate him simply for being black, Democratic, or POTUS- or all three. Their anger and hatred has no rational basis like, say, we had regarding Bush/Cheney. I keep trying to figure out what Obama has done/hasn't done that's been so awful for our country and could have possibly offended these people so badly- but I keep drawing a blank (aside from the three things I previously mentioned).
I didn't get the right's visceral hatred of President Clinton either.

Remember, Rush, Beck, and their cohorts were slandering Obama before the man was even sworn into office. With they type of propaganda that would have made Goebbels proud.

Its not like we haven't seen this before, they voted against Kerry in 2004 and they voted against Obama in 2008. The rethugs weren't happy with John McCain in 08, the far right was voting against having the first black president. We just have to make sure we get everybody out to the polls to vote in Nov, no matter who their nominee is. To be honest, Noot doesn't stand a chance against Obama. Mittens is more competition.

They are clueless about the issues.. they just hate liberals, hate having a black family in the WH, and hate not being in power.

If he is the nominee America will have to listen to his disgusting spewings non-stop for months and months. That is not good for anyone.

Right now people are not paying attention. Do you honestly think that if Gingrich won the nomination he would stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning the GE? Seriously? How many people do you think really know the Gingrich history? How many people know he married his high school geometry teacher, took her the divorce papers while she was in the hospital fighting cancer, married the woman he had been screwing behind her back, then dumped HER when she was battling MS to marry the woman he had been screwing around behind her back with? Forget the fact that he is straight up batshit nuts and so hard to get along with he can't keep staff and that he has no friends. Anywhere. You think Bain Capitol is a problem? Try Freddie Mac on for size. How many people will vote for Gingrich when they play clip after clip after clip of him saying some of the ugliest, meanest, CRAZIEST crap you can think of? How many people are going to get excited about hiring poor students to perform janitorial services at the local school? Just ask Joe Scarborough. He has said that Gingrich is a 'bad guy' and a death sentence for the GOP. Gingrich is the GOP's worst nightmare and I half believe that is exactly why he is running. To tell them FU for turning on him after a bad election cycle and forcing him to resign as Speaker of the House. Please trust me when I say that Democrats will LOVE YOU for nominating Newt.
