Hillary Clinton knocks Jeb Bush's 'right to rise' at Urban League speech

By Ashley Killough and Dan

Fort Lauderdale, Florida (CNN) Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton come from the highest political pedigree in the United States. And despite the battles their two families have fought against each other, members of the Clintons and the Bushes have formed inextricable bonds.

But politics is politics, so when Clinton took the stage on Friday at the National Urban League conference in Fort Lauderdale - just minutes before Bush would address the same audience -- the former secretary of state leveled some of her most direct attacks against the former Florida governor.

"I don't think you can credibly say that everyone has a right to rise and then say you are for phasing out Medicare and repealing Obamacare," Clinton said, using Bush's "Right to Rise" super PAC name to indirectly -- but clearly -- hit the 2016 Republican candidate.

"They can't rise if the minimum wage is too low to live on," Clinton said. "You cannot seriously talk about the right to rise and support laws that deny the right to vote."

CNN has reached out to Bush's campaign for comment on Clinton's attack.

"Clintonesque move to pass over chance to unite in favor of a false cheap shot. When you have no record of accomplishment to point to," Bush's communications director Tim Miller tweeted shortly after Clinton's speech.

(snip) ....................................

But all eyes are on Clinton and Bush, both of whom are running at or near the top of their fields for their respective party's nomination. It's the first time they'll speak at the same event since announcing their White House bids.

That was one big smooch.

The throwaway line
Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley are also set to appear.

Welcome to corporate media where they want a Bush/Clinton election all over again.

It would have been cool to see more indepth reaction from the Urban League, but oh well.

I dread the thought of him being the GOP nominee. He looks and talks like a nice, smart reasonable guy who embodies the "kinder and gentler" form of conservativism.

The problem is that behind that facade he is just another liberal-hating, born again, well-connected Right Wing Plutocrat who in many ways is not too far from the Tea Party.

So kudos to Hillary for going after him. Whomever is the Dem nominee is going to have to work overtime to expose that snake oil salesman for what he really is.

Luckily he's not governor anymore so he doesn;t have that power. But I'm sure Gov Scott would be happy to help him tilt the vote down there.

....Bush was talking about how we have a problem with smugglers and drugs! Maybe he should sit his wife down and have a talk with her? Remember when she tried to smuggle $20K worth of jewelry into the country years ago? Hah! Do as I say, not as I do.
