2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHow much longer is the "Name recognition"excuse going to be used?
To have been in hiding for 20 years in Congress and the Senate, and now trying to get a name out as the only person who can beat Hillary. I wonder when that excuse for poor polling numbers will finally be tucked away?

(12,504 posts)Doesn't matter how many times it's been said, another yahoo comes along and asks the same fucking question.
Well, no more. I'm done playing the conciliatory Dem past member. Until you fix your own team, I'm not going to consider any statement. You've got too many on your team that have said they will not vote for Hillary if she is the Dem Nominee. Fix that first and the. We'll talk.
Ps chanting his name in praise? Wtf. I imagine some of your own cringed at that lol

Most Senators and Representatives aren't on the national stage, unlike say a First Lady or a Secretary of State. It's scary how many people don't know who their Senators, Representatives, or Governors are. And for the state rep or senator? Frightening lack of knowledge.
Also, I'm not sure how much actual national coverage Bernie is getting, especially compared to the Donald. In my case, I don't own a TV so I don't watch what passes for Main Stream Media. I do get my local paper, and I don't believe he's been mentioned at all there. Were I not on DU, did I not frequent various other alternative and left-wing sites, I'd barely have heard of him myself.

(528 posts)Name recognition is part of politics and a corrupt media that is suppressing a fairly explosive campaign is a reality of 2015. He has not been hiding. He has been one of the most out spoken voices for ALL liberal causes for 20 years. Politics is complex and people talking about one issue that is related to Bernie's stance in the polls it is not an excuse. It's an observation. Cut this divisive shit out. You do your preferred candidate no favors.

(50 posts)When Iowa hands Bernie a decisive victory, while Clinton places 3rd AGAIN. Same for NH - a MASSIVE victory for Bernie, with a surprise upset in South Carolina..... then Super Tuesday will finish off Clinton with zero path to the nomination AS predicted.

Then the Name Recognition excuse can be dismissed. Until then, deal with it - and the blame goes squarely to the DNC for shielding Clinton.

This poll came out yesterday, if you look at page 15 you will see that 42% of the people polled either have not heard of Sen. Sanders or have heard of him but have not formed an opinion about him.
Unlike Hillary where that number is more like 4%.
Reality, it exists.

(22,308 posts)Nobody really even starts getting serious about this until after Labor Day (except us junkies). Even then, nothing really matters until after a couple debates.
Once we get past a couple of those we can start to see what the race really looks like. Right now it really is just guess work.
