2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI support Hillary, but I am afraid she can not win the GE
One of the reasons I supported her was that I thought she was a shoo-in for the general election. After all no-one has ever had more experience then her before running for President, and she would be the first female president. Bernie was a self-confessed Socialist which many low information voters think is the same as a communist, ie Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. O'Malley was a Governor of a small blue state that taxed the rain (talk about tax and spend), and his hand picked successor lost in a land slide. And Biden's many gaffs made him a joke to many people.
This was an election that we must win because of the justices who will be replaced on SCOTUS over the next four years.
Carly Fiorina, in the words of the NY Times, as the sole woman in a 17-candidate (Republican) primary field, is singularly qualified to stand up to Mr. Trump. This is also a year that government experience does not seem to count very much with voters. Good-bye to two of the main assets Hillary had to help her win the race. Carly may well be the Republican nominee.
Hillary also has the eMail server questions, and how it feeds into the questions about her character ie truthfulness and honesty. Finally, IMO Hillary is just a bad candidate, her personality does not connect with people the way Bill's did. Her likeably in polls are now under water. And Bernie has not said one word against her.
I do not know why the Clinton foundation never changed its name, and why she never cut all ties to it. It has been the root of so many problems this year.
I am afraid, I am very, very afraid. Are there any other possible viable Democratic candidates out there?

(80 posts)I like him, but in my opinion he does not have a snowball's chance in Hell in the GE. O'malley too will be attacked as a tax crazy secret socialist. Taxing the rain, haha. I wish Jerry Brown was 20 years younger.

It was titled "For the first time in my life, I will be voting against a Republican candidate for president." and can be found at http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021135316
My user name was Viguy007.
Because many people had reposted my OP on their own blogs, and had been challenged as to whether I was ever a Republican, they requested I describe what made me a Republican. I did so, and because I expressed my differences with the norm here on social issues, Viguy007 was banned. I have remained here since I have learned from other posters, and since I have an open mind, I have changed some of my views. My former party is now crazier then ever, so I am now more of a Democrat. I have posted under several different names.

(961 posts)It doesn't matter which candidate or whether or not one agrees or disagrees with the perceptions. The point is they are out there, and sometimes they define the candidate whether they or their supporters like it or not. That's just politics.
And this poster mentioned some of those perceptions, which I agree are worthy of consideration and discussion, but I just don't see it being a productive discussion here at this time, at least not in public. And I'm not in a position to be involved even if one were to start as I have real life obligations and time constraints.

Did you think people didn't expect that, weren't prepared for it? He has an army of volunteers on Social Media where most political conversations now take place, the Old Media is less and less relevant, who have taken care of these smears immediately, telling the facts and exposing the smearmongers. Something that wasn't available when it happened to Kerry and Dean to the same extent.
No one depends on the MSM, the propaganda arm of the real power in this country, for facts anymore except for a shrinking audience of older Americans and among them, many know they are often being lied, PLUS they have children and grandchildren to help them use other sources.

(80 posts)The Polls indicate what I observe about Hillary is correct. Great name recognition, but she is now falling compared to the other candidates and is now losing to some of them. The trend is not her friend. I love Bernie on the issues, but for a hundred years we have been taught a socialist - sorry I mean communist - is the worse thing in the world because they take away all your freedom. They will even kill you if you do not do what they say. O'Malley has that rain tax, which cost his party a long time blue state.

was a shoe-in and now we have no other viable candidate to take her place. It looks more and more like we are going to get a
Republican House and Senate and worst of all we will lose the court for decades. I have never been so depressed about our chances.

(115,909 posts)Even the Wall Street Urinal has dissed her:
And:
According to reports from that time, Fiorina tripled her own salary while CEO of HP, while at the same time rendering about 30,000 of the companys workers jobless in layoffs and firings while presiding over a 50 percent plunge in Hewlett-Packard stock value. Morale reportedly became so poor within the once-great technology firm that employees would openly boo Fiorina at company meetings.
But the seeming lack of respect between workers and Fiorina remains mutual, even a decade after she was given a $42 million golden parachute by HP in exchange for leaving the company.
The GOPers like to make a big deal about how business people are better suited to be president than "career politicians," so why in the world would they choose someone who was widely regarded as one of the worst CEOs ever, who was loathed by her employees and who drove a major corporation right into the ground and was eventually fired by its board of directors? And who then was completely slaughtered by her opponent when she tried to run for the Senate? It's possible she could be selected as the running mate by whichever mental midget they nominate - as a way of trying to make it seem like they don't actually hate women - but Fiorina will not get the nomination.

Carly Fiorina qualified to stand up to Trump? And none of the Democratic candidates are?
Well, Trump did bankrupt 4 businesses, and Fiorina almost bankrupted one, so they have that to talk about:
Trump: "Vote for me!"
Fiorina: "No, Vote for Me!"
Trump: "No, not her, she's a woman!"
Fiorina: "Yeah, but I didn't bankrupt 4 companies, only nearly bankrupted one and put 33,000 people out of work. So, there, I'm better for the country!"

(14,599 posts)He's going to be the surprise of the season.
He's tough, smart, understands the issues that mean something to us, and he doesn't back down.
I agree with nearly every position he's taken, and when we huge grassroots network of support educate people on the 'not soviet type of socialism, think Denmark, or Holland type socialism - Democratic Socialism or maybe Social Democraticness...
Plus, I know and work with many Millenials and they are excited about Bernie. They like what he says, and they don't think of socialism as being a negative thing like we're all supposed to.
We'll see how it goes. But I'm thinking Bernie will beat Hillary, who is running a horribly lackluster campaign and reminds me more of a windsock or weathervane than anything else. Because Bernie is the ONLY candidate who has talked about this stuff for at least half a century.
Don't misread the mood of the American people. Establishment candidates will lose this time around.
At least I hope so...and hey, I'm like Don Quixote - I'm gonna tilt at this one last windmill! Viva La Mancha!

When did Carli Fiorina become a juggernaut?
Albeit it was California but she lost to Barbara Boxer by ten points in a Republican wave year.
Nostradamus I am not but it is more likely we face Rubio, Kasich or Bush lll than Carli Fienderina.
