Sanders 26 years ago sounds exactly like Sanders today

This is a bit long so I expect it to sink like a rock but for any sincerely open-minded voter who wonders if Sanders is too good to be true, listen to him 26 years ago on C-SPAN when he was only a 4-time Mayor and the audience reaction.

They discuss politics, going outside of the Democratic and Republican Party paradigms if we want to change anything, economics, socialism, healthcare, crime, hopelessness, education, corporations, youth programs, media etc

I admire a person on the people's side who plans their work and works their plan for over 30 years.

He has not "evolved" to keep pace with the steady rightward drift of the Democratic Party.

I'll take an ally who doesn't need to *evolve* and remained on the people's side for decades any day.

That 'no one cares' what anyone did back then.

They speak for ALL AAs, they claim.

But what their dismissal of Bernie's lifelong record on Civil Rights caused ME to do was to go find out what the Clintons, who are of the same generation, were doing back then.

And yes, it matters, it matters a lot.

The Rovian effort to USE Bernie's far more impressive record on Civil Rights AGAINST him, has backfired.

Here's how. Polls show that only 33% of AAs knew who Bernie was, as is the case with ALL Americans actually, a hurdle he is successfully overcoming. But when they went after only HIM, many AAs who were already angry at Hillary (I know, we don't talk about that) began to look him up. And what I have seen are comments like this 'wait a minute, why are they going after this dude, he's been on our side his whole life'.

So, they have helped introduce him to minorities which eventually he would have done himself, but their playing the race card, has speeded up that process.

Which is why we are seeing the desperation to find something, anything, even to make stuff up if necessary, to distract from what is, while not perfect, certainly one of the most consistent politicians on issues that SHOULD be important to most Democrats. Or so they say.

In a way he is a litmus test for Democrats. We will find out who actually means it when they say they support the Environment or that they are for reigning in the Big Banks, or that they oppose Citizens United. So far we are waiting for Democrats to endorse candidates.

I am willing to bet that the current Congress will go along with the status quo.

We'll see, but for me, that will be a good way of knowing who I will support in their next election.

after returning to DU after so long is that the exact same people on my ignore list because of the way they shilled for issues anathema to the people, are with 2 surprising exceptions, the exact same people who opposed people like me on the issues for over 7 years here.

I think he's more than a litmus test, at this point he's a confirmation.

Other than that minor comment, a total endorsement of your post.

about what is going on within our party. There really is no point in denying the right wing shift, the false claims made re where the country stands on major issues etc. We have been fed these lies for so long and tried to deal with them by reason and by presenting facts, none of which worked, so the only conclusion has to be that far too many members of the Dem Party are not just going along out of fear of not being elected, they are on board with these right wing policies and the only chance we have of changing that, is for the people to step forward finally and use the enormous power they have by backing ONLY those candidates who are on their side.

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.

I love when the humanities come into play. There are Ideals that have withstood the tests of time. Good people doing good deeds.

It usually isn't found in politics, and that is why he is the person to support this time. We need him.
