Why I DO support O'Malley

Ok I am not going to post a thread telling everyone all the bad things about the "other" candidates, I am simply going to tell you why I support O'Malley.

It's not really complicated. He has come out with a whole list of things he wants to change, and he has actually written down how he will go about make those changes. I like what I have read, and heard. I also have seen his record of getting things done while he was Governor, and that gives me reason to believe he will do all he can to implement the need changes we need to fix Wall Street and hold anyone breaking the laws in the financial markets accountable for what they have done, just like anyone else. That includes jail time if needed. He has an immigration plan to help bring people out of the shadows and let them work towards getting legal status to work, and in time a chance for citizenship. He also has many other plans that you can read about on his site, or you can drop by the O'Malley group here on DU and ask for information.

That being said, I also want to add that if he does NOT win the nomination, I will support either Bernie or Hillary, which ever one does win, no matter what. I feel that we can not afford to allow any of the "clowns" running for the GOP nomination anywhere near the WH, not if we want this country to move forward, not backwards, and not if we want something better for our children, and their children's future. As I have stated, I feel O'Malley would be the best pick to make sure we keep on the right path, but either of the other two will work for me also. Contrary to what some here may say, both parties are NOT THE SAME, not even close. The damage done by any one of those idiots on the GOP ticket if elected would be the worst thing that could happen to this country. Not voting should not be an option for anyone.

For a change in DC. As I said I have no problem backing either Bernie or Hillary if they should win, but I am not voting for O'Malley because I can't stand the "other" candidates, but because I think he can make the changes, and provide a new view on things. I also think he can carry on where Obama left off, and that's what we need, to move forward.

Happy to kick a really positive post!

Thank you Andy.

I find the policies that he has put forth to be most likely to be implemented. They are very progressive ideas and as you mentioned, there is a track record that shows how they worked.

6. I think we need more positive threads

I get so tired of coming on DU and seeing the same thing day after day, people telling me how "terrible" some of our candidates are. Heck we should be proud of the field we have, not complaining about them and most of all not using right wing talking points to bash them with.

I know that there are a lot of supporters for Bernie and Hillary who want to be positive and I rec their post whenever I see them, but way to many "negative" threads keep pushing anything positive off the front page so we never get to really see them, let along discuss them.

My vote goes the person I think will do the best job, and I feel pretty good knowing that I can vote for all three of ou top tier come the general election, even tough my first choice will be O'Malley.

Sometimes I feel like many many really great OP's and posts get drowned out and that is a real shame.

I will advocate for my first candidate choice. What I don't want to do is advocate against other candidates. IF I see something I disagree about, I would like to have an honest discussion about whatever issue that is. That doesn't mean tearing down a candidate that is not my first choice.

I might be a minority here, but I really try to discuss politics on this message board (as I did on others in the past) the same way I would if I were talking to a person in real life. It's not always perfect, but I think keeping communication open with a humane/human touch would go a long way.

Strangely enough, it is one of the reason why I like O'Malley's policies as well as how he presents himself on a personal level. I genuinely like him as a person.

8. Gov O'Malley is a super smart talented person. He may end up being a sleeper candidate.

Gov O'Malley wrote a boodk about his time in elective politics in Maryland. It would have been helpful to his campaign if the book had been published because one of the ways to learn about a candidates' leadership style is through their writings. Democrats are fortunate to have so many great candidates.

I do not know all about that "getting the changes needed to fix Wall Street"...and also look what he has done to Baltimore...There should be a litmus test for candidates going forward...if you failed as an elected official, you should NOT run for higher office!!!!

The NewDEAL is a national network of rising state and local elected leaders who are pro-growth progressives. Our mission is to bring together leaders focused on expanding opportunity and to help them develop and spread innovative ideas to spur economic growth that is broadly-earned and sustainable. We do this by connecting the NewDEAL Leaders with each other to exchange ideas, and connecting them with other pro-growth progressive political, policy, and private sector leaders.

The network is led by our Honorary Chairs, Delaware Governor Jack Markell and U.S. Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, as well as our Honorary Regional Chairs: Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, U.S. Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey, U.S. Senator Chris Coons of Delaware, U.S. Senator Gary Peters of Michigan, California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman, former Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, and Houston Mayor Annise Parker.

We hope you’ll take a moment to nominate innovative leaders you’ve met and sign up to stay connected as we add more of their pro-growth progressive ideas to our site.

Seriously, you really think this is a bad thing? Pro-growth progressive business is now a bad thing to try to support?

Thank you for proving the point I made above. Welcome to DU.

I applaud your vigorous and diligent search of the internet to find the web site of the NewDEAL that gives no information on who are the donors of the NewDeal. Where are the donors, so I can shower them in glorious adulation? How come they are not mentioned? Very interesting...Mark Warner and Cory Booker are corporate establishment hacks just like Obama. Chris Coons donors list consists of Comcast and Grant & Eisenhofer (I hope I do not have to elaborate any further and all this info can be found on opensecrets.org). I do not want to have to shred the rest of the corporate pigs you mentioned, but it is not hard to find dirt on them.
Now The Intercept is a LIBERAL outfit, co-created by Glenn Greenwald (Do I have to explain who he is too?) And Lee Fang, it would be very wise to know him because he is not going away. Born and schooled in Maryland, he will be in O'Malley's business.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...but you are not ready to be awaken yet so continue your slumber...

When they come on DU and start out bashing, it usually pretty obvious what their agenda is. I too would be interested in who their choice would be for president.

Remarks about the candidate "you" support? Can you do that?

I have found that one someone's first post is negative about "another" candidate instead of positive about theirs, it's not usually a good sign. Maybe I am wrong here, but let's see if you cane promote your candidate.

i really have liked what i have heard from omalley and i really appreciate hearing his womens issues section. what i appreciate the most is his having been mayor and governor and a real participant instead of like texas where the gov does not do much or have responsibilities.

hands down the strongest reason he gets my first vote is he has done it.

hearing positive things about all the democratic candidates.

As for Martin O'Malley, I knew little about him a year ago. I've learned a lot more about him from reading the O'Malley group and seeing his speeches and reading his proposals.

I really like his enthusiasm and optimism concerning the future of our country. I like that he has been mayor of a large city and governor of a significant state. I like that he has been reelected by strong margins and receives praise from all types of people in different communities. I watched the speeches of all three democratic candidates in Iowa and liked his the best. I think he has the ability to work across the aisle and actually accomplish the changes that he proposes.

I think he's very sincere about his desire and belief in doing things that improve the country. I love that music is a strong part of his life and that he enjoys playing guitar and singing. He enjoys having fun and I can picture him engaging people and winning them over with common sense tried and true liberal policy. He's a breath of fresh air in this primary race and I intend to give him more attention and watch him in the debates before I make up my mind on how I'll vote. I'm glad to have him in our party and believe he will be a significant voice in the party for years to come.
