Jan. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Senate Republicans are weighing a plan to block most of President Barack Obamas appellate-court nominations starting in June or earlier in response to the recess appointments he made this month.
The idea was discussed at a private retreat of Senate Republicans yesterday at Mount Vernon, the Virginia estate of George Washington. The option of stopping all consideration of executive and judicial nominees didnt get as much support as a measured reaction to Obamas recess appointments, which included the installation of Richard Cordray as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, senators said.
Broadly blocking nominees was discussed, but were also very aware he would like us to play into his narrative, and were not going to take the bait, said Senator John Cornyn of Texas, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, referring to Obamas rhetoric about a do-nothing Congress.

(24,437 posts)Until facts prove otherwise that the Republicans will continue to be led by the nose to do whatever the Tea Party wing of their party wants. Until there are a few Republicans with wisdom and conviction enough to stand up to that part of the party and are even willing to be primaried over it, I don't see the Tea Party losing the power they have been granted and are more than willing to use and we should assume the worst from them and do what we can to keep them out of power. The Tea Party agenda is illogical and even dangerous for our country and Republicans are equally so for pushing/kowtowing to it IMHO.
