2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI kept getting these Bernie Sanders emails...
Don't know why. I never signed up. So I just kinda let it go - not feeling one way or another about it. He's running for the Dem nomination, I'm a Dem, might as well hang onto 'em for reference. But yesterday I finally decided - hey, I'm a Hillary supporter. And I'm almost strangling under all the emails I get (from EVERYBODY AND EVERYWHERE and on loads of subjects from the bead world to the band world to politics to green living etc etc etc). I probably should thin things out a little. So I decided to unsubscribe.
And here's what I got:
UNSUBSCRIBE
Were sad to see youre endorsing the Koch Brothers agenda in 2016!
Okay, we know youre not doing that you probably just dont want to get so many emails from the campaign.
Grassroots mobilization is how well level the playing field against candidates with SuperPACs and wealthy donors. We hope youll reconsider leaving, make a contribution to the campaign, or join us on social media at:
FACEBOOKTWITTERYOUTUBEINSTAGRAMTUMBLR
You can also choose to receive fewer emails well only send you what we think are the most important messages from our campaign.

Typical of how Hillary supporters on this site try to twist every little thing to
"It's an attack on Hillary!"

(568 posts)Hillary has nothing to do with it, if she wins the primary we lose the general.
Ergo, pulling support from Bernie means the Koch Brothers get their way.
https://go.berniesanders.com/page/unsubscribe/
Hillary is SO easy to defeat, that much is a no brainer.
She can game the primary system with DWS and superdelegates (maybe, maybe not) but the GOP will BURY her in the general if we don't select Bernie.
Come on, get on the Bernie Train with us!

But maybe it's not funny to a HRC fan because of her close corporate and Wall Street relationships.

I'm happy to get Bernie's emails. I have contributed 10 dollars here and there and planning a $50 drop on the moneybomb a week from today.

(67,782 posts)...and if the Sanders campaign has no qualms about spamming potential voters, he doesn't deserve our nomination.

(67,782 posts)....got a response with a first sentence that was offensive.
And not only that, the response "doubled down" with this:
"choose to receive fewer emails well only send you what we think are the most important messages"!
How the fuck does the Sanders campaign determine what is "the most important messages" to people they're sending unsolicited emails to in the first place?
I can't believe the reaction to that obnoxious response - some will defend it to the death, or at least until Super Tuesday.

(22,271 posts)are not always going to be from the Bernie Sanders campaign. Pretty easy, actually, just look at who sent it. If it's not from BernieSanders.com it's not coming from the Sanders campaign.

(94,534 posts)...partly by design and partly by budget limits, Sanders is running with limited staff. I suspect that gives some people, especially volunteers "free reign" to tweak thing the way they want without checking with higher ups.

(90,674 posts)What I learned is never to sign a petition again, unless I used a Yahoo account, because once they have your email address they've gotcha. There had to have been at least 50 different senders and at its worst I was getting 100 emails a day.
I upgraded my spam filters too.
I still get stuff, but not nearly in those quantities. I left my local Democratic Party stuff in place, and OFA, and Obama. It's been a huge improvement.
My advice is to do the same, and don't give up. With many of the accounts there was some lag time before they updated their records, and meanwhile I kept going through the unsubscribe routine with every new email they sent.
Feel the relief.

(46,179 posts)to the next email I return to the DNC. I've tried, repeatedly, to tag them as junk so they won't land in my inbox, but it never works.
That inbox, with 100 or so new emails every day, 99% that I have to delete to get to those I actually want to read...
If you don't want the emails, it's a simple thing. Unsubscribe. It's nice that there's an option.
Interestingly, I don't get that many emails from the Sanders campaign, and I AM subscribed. I get more from the POTUS, and I never subscribed to the WH, lol.

(154,021 posts)have you ever subscribed to ANY donor list? I mean ANY? You could end up on it becuase you donated for the local guy\gal running for dog catcher.
These lists are bought and sold in bundles to campaigns. This is how I ended up in the Michelle Bachman list, and a few others that just make me smile. And she did a no-no at one point that got her in hot water... donor lists are supposed to be sacrosanct and separate from media lists... ooops somebody in her staff forgot that rule... but that is a story for another day.
Some of the people who send me email are left, some are center, some are far, far, far right. None are even in my state!
As a reporter I don't unsubscribe, but that is how you ended in the list. Somebody at some point bought a list from somebody else. a list that might have been bought and sold a few times incidentally.
