Satellite Caucus Applications Now Available for 2016 Iowa Democratic Caucuses
DES MOINES As part of the Iowa Democratic Partys continuing efforts to expand participation in the Iowa Democratic Precinct Caucuses, today the IDP released satellite caucus application forms for the 2016 caucuses. Satellite caucus locations, which will be instituted for the first time next year, are meant for groups of Democrats who want to participate in the caucuses, but are unable to attend their precinct caucus due to a hardship (limitations of mobility, distance, or time).
Satellite caucuses will be held at the same day and time, 7 p.m. on February 1st, 2016, as the precinct caucuses.
The Iowa Caucuses represent one of our states proudest traditions, and satellite caucuses are an important way to include more Iowans in the process, said IDP Chair Dr. Andy McGuire. Iowa Democrats believe more participation makes our party and our state stronger, and we remain committed to ensuring the caucuses are as accessible as possible while preserving what has always made them such a special example of democracy.
The IDPs State Central Committee will grant satellite caucus locations to sites that have a sizeable number of Democrats whove demonstrated a clear need to add an additional caucus site. The satellite caucus locations will be open to Democrats who live and/or work at the caucus site, and cannot attend their regular precinct caucus due to a hardship.
The IDP will accept applications from now until November 3rd. The application can be filled out online hereor downloaded here.
Information on how Iowans who are living abroad, including members of the military, can participate in a tele-caucus will be available in the upcoming weeks.
