We disrupted Hillary Clinton on behalf of black Trans women and here is why?

Last week, we disrupted Hillary Clinton’s campaign event in Cleveland, OH, asking her to “divest from private prisons, invest in black trans women.” As representatives of Black Lives Matter and GetEQUAL our ask was strategic and intentional. Since Hillary Clinton makes equality for women a critical tenet of her campaign platform, we demand that Clinton -- and our own movement for black lives -- center the black transgender women so often left out of conversations about gender and racial equity. As cisgender Black women, we are fighting for our trans family: we understand that Black liberation means all Black people, and we resist the idea that anyone is disposable in our work.

Hillary Clinton holds unique culpability for the destruction of Black trans lives: her campaign is funded in part by lobbyists and lawyers for private prison companies like Corrections Corporation of America and the GEO Group.

Hillary Clinton’s previous meetings with those working with Black Lives Matter have ended with little acknowledgement of how she can fight for Black lives as a candidate. Her attempts to deflect criticism by repeatedly demanding “policy proposals” from activists ignore the responsibility that she and other political leaders hold for propping up the broken criminal justice system.

Ties to Corrections Corporation of America, Beacon Global Strategies, Monsanto, Burson-Marsteller, etc., etc., etc.

All right wing smears, of course.

I, mean, my god, she has a 'D' next to her name when it appears in print and on screen. Surely that's all that matters.

Something like that. Hillary needs to break all ties with this evil industry.

But the Clintons are marketing superstars, and perception is all that matters. How else to explain someone using the Southern Strategy, supporting disastrous welfare 'reform' and a horrendous crime bill, and having a close relationship with prison profiteers, all while claiming to be a strong supporter of civil rights.

Perception, money, the Cult of Personality, marketing...that's what drives US politics.

When she appears where she belongs there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Also, when Bernie shows up as just slightly center left (which is what he and any other FDR Democrats actually are) People will scream BUT...BUT..BUT Socialist Commie! this can't be correct!

American politicians as a group are quite radically right wing with the Birchers in Republican land firmly in Fascist territory, so people mistaken right wingers Like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama as somehow left of center which could not be farther from objective truth

This new batch of Republicans will be far up top and to the right - perhaps taking up the entire corner this go around.

Post endlessly how right blm is to do this
So many were swearing earlier that their support of blm is independent of which candidate was targeted
I know this thread will hit a new rec record!
Ftr black lives matter and blm is doing what small movements do to get attention
As I said during the Sanders kerfuffle that was so obviously used to divide us and create racial animosity here on du "blm is doing it right ...someone tell me which wheel gets the grease?"
I am sure the hrc racial response team will be here soon and often to comment positively on blm's actions and rec this thread

Does this rapid response team get paid? If so, where can I go for my check? Every sentence of yours is an assumption about others except for one.

When BLM interrupted Bernie, the Sanders supporters went ballistic and attacked BLM.

I haven't seen Hillary supporters attack BLM for interrupting Hillary. I haven't seen the same level of vitriol directed at BLM.

The difference is actually quite striking.

They know they are working as agents of change and that Hillary has an open mind with a lot of clout. They owe nothing to any politician and it is great to see them working on democrats. We all have room to improve and I love BLM and their attitude. Marissa herself really brought the game to a new level. There is an army of people willing to do the same.
